URC recap: Connacht 0-10 Leinster (RTE.ie)

Hello and welcome to the latest Irish interpro of the season where Connacht welcome Leinster to Galway. Andy Friend's side are fresh from the ...

A dominant first quarter where they could, and perhaps should, have added to their early try but for some poor lineout darts and sloppy handling errors. They are hoping to secure a losing bonus, but the clock is up against them....they have one last scrum put-in on halfway Josh van der Flier goes galloping downfield...the flanker must have thought he'd make it all the way after picking the ball up off the ground, but a superb covering tackle from John Porch saves the day...the ball is recycled and Leinster win the penalty....the TMO is having a look at something...yellow card for Niall Murray. The crowd latch on to that and will their team downfield. James Ryan makes a big hit on Mack Hansen and as he is rolled away, seems to have hurt his knee/leg...he's getting attention on the pitch, but when we resume, Connacht will have a lineout deep inside the 22...they have to make it count eventually if they are to get something out of the game...Dowling gets up, but it's an overthrow and it is knocked forward. Bit of a swirling breeze as per usual on an autumnal night at the Sportsground, but he will be somewhat disappointed with that. The Leinster man is on the official's radar after swinging out at a smiling Jack Carthy. He is felled and Connacht clear their lines...and Leinster lose another throw. Connacht nab the Leinster lineout, but then they undo their good work when Shamus Hurley-Langton is pinged for holding on under massive pressure. Early lead for the visitors...— RTÉ Rugby (@RTErugby) It'll be a tough one, but we're ready for the challenge. Connacht v Leinster: Provinces go head-to-head in battle for URC ... (Independent.ie)

Leinster head coach Cullen is wary of the threat that Connacht will pose at the Sportsground, as the westerners look to build on their important win over ...

Instead, the locals left bitterly disappointed that their side was kept scoreless at home. There was still time left in the opening half for Connacht to launch another assault at the Leinster line and while they twice went close, Leinster clung on by forcing a maul into touch. For a game that the Westerners might well have won had they been more accurate, to leave with nothing was a crushing blow. Errors began to creep into the visitors' game, and when Ed Byrne was pinged for holding on, it allowed Connacht to set up a good attacking lineout deep inside the Leinster 22. Leinster made hard work of maintaining their 100pc start to the season, but having escaped Galway with a precious win, this mixed bag of a performance will not live long in the memory. It was scrappy, it was tense, and at times, it was feisty, but in the end, Connacht were left kicking themselves that they somehow came away empty-handed.

Connacht 0-10 Leinster: recap and result as Blues keep 100 ... (Irish Mirror)

It was the away side that made a bright start and silenced the home crowd. After some nice work by the forwards, Cormac Foley got over the line in just the ...

Connacht win the line-out and drive to the line. Leinster ball now. Connacht secure ball but don't use it quick enough. Audible scream let out by the Leinster man. Penalty to Leinster from the scrum. And on an extremely greasy pitch made even worse by the torrential rainfall, Connacht inexplicably kept going to the tail of their line-out.

Match Report: Connacht Rugby 0 Leinster Rugby 10 - Leinster Rugby (Leinster Rugby)

Match report from the Sportsground where Leinster Rugby beat Connacht Rugby 10-0 in the BKT United Rugby Championship.

John Porch’s long kick and Peter Dooley’s strength over the ball enabled Connacht to apply pressure. Caelen Doris and Ngatai took the ball up. A tremendous break by Sheehan up the right enabled Leinster to get in behind where the ball was shifted left for Russell to test John Porch on the touchline. As ever the set-piece was proving pivotal, Porter crunching a penalty at the scrum and a lineout indiscretion providing another chance for Leinster to turn the screw. Too many times, the green shirts were turned back, Porter the latest to dive on a loose ball and the home lineout malfunctioning to see the status quo maintained. The influence of Henshaw, Doris and Ringrose on the ball was growing as Byrne continued to look for Russell with that arrow-like crossfield kick.

Leinster grind out another win as Connacht draw a blank (Irish Examiner)

The sight of referee Frank Murphy raising his arm in the air was far too familiar and both sides put together a catalogue of errors on a night coated with ...

Well, here was the second week in a row where the fare was anything but easy to digest and maybe the main difference here was that the visitors claimed the win. It’s not the first time Connacht have been nilled at home by a provincial rival in the modern era. As with the visit of Munster seven days before, this was a package blighted by holes. As tries go it was far too easy and it didn’t bode well for the contest but Leinster couldn’t use that as a springboard as a combination of poor handling, Connacht’s nuisance levels and that wet and windy backdrop conspired against them. The theory was that Connacht’s new 4G surface would set the table for some sumptuous running rugby. Add to that the fact that the two sides combined for over 2,000 kicking metres – on top of the 23 penalties - and entertaining this was not but the end result is a fifth win from five for Leinster, who still look like they have acres of room to improve, and a fourth defeat of this still young season for Connacht.

Leinster roll up their sleeves against Connacht and show they can ... (The Irish Times)

Both sides struggle at lineout time but Leinster keep home team scoreless on wet night in the west.

But Blade did add a threat and when Hansen chased his well weighted box kick to engulf Liam Turner, Conor Oliver followed up a big steal with a strong carry only for Connacht to miss another lineout inside the 22 with a knock-on in the air. Sheehan hit Caelan Doris and Josh van der Flier broke blind off the maul, bouncing Colm Reilly and drawing in Porch before taking the tackle by Shamus Hurley-Langton to offload for Reilly to score. Jack Conan and Van der Flier dropped the ball; the latter’s first mistake since around 2019. Ringrose dumped Jack Carty, Jimmy O’Brien reclaimed Byrne’s up-and-under above Conor Fitzgerald and after Ryan won a penalty in the jackal their maul was held up. Connacht defended superbly too, but to come away with nothing from their efforts – notably Paul Boyle, Niall Murray, Josh Murphy and Conor Oliver off the bench. Josh van der Flier led the way with 13.
