There will be times when we will have to go without the ball, but when we have it and we are in the game, we have to go and hurt them. The second half was a lot more like us, we were compact in and out of possession, and this caused them a lot of problems. We also have to go and perform and impose ourselves on them where possible. Shelbourne hadn’t had anything in the game, the goals were very disappointing and something that we have to take a look at. Our spacing in the first half was far too big and as a result, we became sloppy and open. It was in good spirits with a really good atmosphere.

The Hoops continued to push in search of a route back into the game but just couldn’t find that final touch as the Croatian official brought the game to a close. There were encouraging signs for the Hoops at the start of the second half, with Richie Towell almost finding an equaliser but Karlstrom did well to push his goal-bound strike to safety. Goals in each half from David Fofana and Kristian Eriksen were enough for the Norwegian side to take all three points away from the D24 venue.

Controversial goal sets up Molde defeat for Rovers (RTE.ie)

Shamrock Rovers' aspirations of reaching the knock-out phase of the Europa Conference League ended at Tallaght Stadium as Stephen Bradley's side were beaten ...

In the 32nd minute, Birk Risa should have hit the target as he arrived unmarked at the back post from a set-piece out on the right wing. Byrne and Watts were dictating the tempo in an advanced midfield possession and a sublime cross-field ball from the latter picked out the Ronan Finn racing up the right flank. Heartbreaking for Rovers as the goal was entirely against the run of play after the home side ran the game for the opening 30 minutes and, to rub salt in the wound, the striker was clearly offside as the ball was sent in from the left of the penalty box. But Molde were also looking to play on the front foot and Emil Breivik worked the keeper in the 55th minute with a low-hard strike that was just prevented from flying inside the post as Mannus got down smartly once more to save. Moments later, however, the Norwegians broke the deadlock as a quick counter caught the Hoops defence out of position and when the ball was lifted back in from the left by Magnus Grodem, the unmarked Fofana had the simplest of tasks of heading past Mannus from point-blank range. Andy Lyons was a doubt ahead of the game and was not included in the matchday squad, allowing Sean Kavanagh to resume in a more natural position out on the left

Watch: Shamrock Rovers concede clear offside goal vs Molde (Extra.ie)

Shamrock Rovers supporters were calling for VAR in the Europa Conference League after conceding an offside goal against Molde.

Aaron Greene earned himself a one-on-one opportunity having judged his run to perfection prior to the goal, before the flag was raised for an alleged infringement. It was not the only contentious offside decision of the night. A VAR intervention would have ruled the score out, but unfortunately for the League of Ireland club, the technology is not used in the Conference League.
