Dunfanaghy man Kevin McLaughlin goes in an R5 car for the first time at this weekend's Donegal Harvest Stages Rally.
Last year, he was 15th overall in the Isle of Man Rally - a result he puts down as one of his best yet - and 2022 has been good to him. Over the gruelling three days and 20 stages, the gearbox was out of the Civic three times over the weekend. There was no rallying in Ireland last year with Covid so we went to do the Isle of Man and that was definitely one of my best ever. The engine was broken and we had to rebuild the car again. Like many of his peers and competitors, the 31-year-old, now a mechanic at Ferry’s Garage in Letterkenny, began his motorsport career as a young boy. The sponsors, every one of them, came on board and we thought this was something that could, maybe, lead to something.

Dungloe club secretary and former club player Patrick McGowan says the Rosses club are in a good place following on from their success in the Donegal IFC, ...
“Relegation hurt the boys because they felt they were the team that lost senior championship status. “A road back to the senior championship was the big prize for Saturday’s winners and our boys wanted it really badly,” McGowan added. That was the level of commitment and dedication required to get back to where they wanted to be playing senior championship football.” “Saturday’s win and the manner in which they won it was a massive achievement for the team against a good Naomh Columba side. “The whole town and the club are very proud of the team and management they have achieved this year. “Great credit must go to Dessie and his backroom team and the players for the work they put in over the last two years to get back to the senior championship,” McGowan added.
