Charlie Bird to release 'poignant' new book about battle with MND (Irish Mirror)

The legendary RTÉ journalist and campaigner revealed his diagnosis of the incurable disease on the Late Late Show towards the end of last year.

Charlie Bird has said that he has 'finally come to terms' with his Motor Neurone Disease on the Late Late Show.

I have travelled to many parts of the world in my amazing life I have travelled to the top and the bottom of the earth - yes, the North and the South Pole. Given all the pressure people are under today, I think it is really important that there is someone there at the end of a fall who will listen to you without making a judgment.' I have lots of thoughts going through my head of who else, I would like to help. As he was walking out of the studio back to his dressing room, he saw me and shook my hand and wished me well. 'I have had lots of ideas in my head to continue helping people who are in dark places [and] are struggling each day to climb their own personal mountains,' he explained. Charlie then gave a special shoutout to his best friend Vicky Phelan, who is also battling cervical cancer, saying 'My thoughts are always with Vicky Phelan, she is the most courageous person and look what she has done for the women of Ireland.
