Molde vs Shamrock Rovers Molde vs Shamrock Rovers

888 Sport Preview – Molde FK Vs Shamrock Rovers - Shamrock ... (Shamrock Rovers F.C.)

Rovers opened their account in this UEFA Conference League campaign, by taking a solid 0-0 home draw against Djurgarden in Dublin.

However, experience is always a great thing to have and Rovers have some in the bank from European away nights this season. However, it was to be a share of the spoils as Rovers couldn’t get a precious breakthrough in the fixture. Their best-ever season in Europe came in the 2020/21 Europa League group stage when they reached the Round of 16. Norwegian side Molde have produced a fine domestic campaign, and it is another league-leading team that Rovers will be facing in the group. Shamrock Rovers will continue their quest to secure their first win in the UEFA Conference League on October 6th. This is a big one for Rovers at the Aker Stadion as they seek points to push themselves into the qualification picture.

Conference League: Molde v Shamrock Rovers updates (RTE.ie)

Shamrock Rovers are at the Aker Stadion to face Norwegian league leaders Molde FK in the third round of action in the Europa Conference League group stages.

The Hoops have a busy schedule so will have to dust themselves down quickly once they land back in Ireland. A first goal of the group campaign incoming? No hat-trick as of yet for the striker. They quickly go up the other end and Ola Brynhildsen, who is on a hat-trick takes a shot which is straight at Alan Mannus. It's Ola Brynhildsen again and it comes after Kristian Eriksen cracked a shot against the crossbar. It's been a dominant display from Molde as expected and they have made it difficult for the Hoops to get out of their own half, while leaving their defence at sixes and sevens whenever crosses are fired in. Shamrock Rovers have really struggled whenever the ball makes it into the area. Shamrock Rovers breathe a sigh of relief. Shamrock Rovers' defence suddenly looking nervy after Molde captain Martin Linnes fires a first-time cross into the box. Andy Lyons makes a decisive block as Molde try to whip a cross in from the right with the visitors defending in a compact shape thus far. It's a real mix of youth and experience for Shamrock Rovers tonight with Justin Ferizaj starting another big European game in midfield and Aidomo Emhaku joining Aaron Greene up front. Kick-off is at 5.45pm and you can follow updates as they happen from the Aker Stadion right here.

LIVE: Molde v Shamrock Rovers, Europa Conference League (The42)

Shamrock Rovers face Molde as they aim to pick up their first win in the group stages.

With the likes of Jack Byrne and Rory Gaffney on the bench, a weakened starting XI struggled to keep the ball for a sustained period, and they were ultimately outclassed by their Norwegian opponents. FULL-TIME: MOLDE 3-0 SHAMROCK ROVERS Great save by Mannus to deny Hussain, whose powerful shot on the edge of the area is turned behind for a corner. A dreadful start to the second half for Rovers. MOLDE 3-0 SHAMROCK ROVERS (HUSSAIN 58) Rovers had a decent spell in possession early on but Molde are on the front foot as I type and Dan Cleary is in the right position to clear a low cross. They fail to deal with a ball into the area and it breaks for Brynhildsen, who finishes clinically. Molde lead and it’s a disappointing goal to concede from a Rovers perspective. Molde 3-0 Shamrock Rovers The latter game was part of a dismal away record that Rovers have had in Europe this season, and they will be looking to reverse that trend in Norway tonight. Hello, and welcome to our liveblog of what is a big game for Shamrock Rovers. Shamrock Rovers faced Molde as they aimed to pick up their first win in the group stages.

Shamrock Rovers head away to Molde this evening looking to get their first group stage win on the board in the Europa Conference League.

Molde 0 Shamrock Rovers 0 A ball into the box eventually falls kindly for Magnus Grodem who pauses momentarily before stabbing a clever back heel pass across the face of goal. Mannus saves from Kristian Eriksen after Rovers dilly-dally in clearing their lines. Martin Linnes blazes a fantastic pass right across the six yard box where it falls to Etzaz Hussain, but the latter misses from close range! They have made good on the warnings they gave Rovers throughout the first half, where Rovers were admittedly lucky to only concede one goal. The game is drawing to a close in pedestrian fashion here.

Shamrock Rovers have it all still to play for in Europe, says Stephen ... (Belfast Telegraph)

Stephen Bradley says two wins and a draw from Shamrock Rovers' remaining four Europa Conference League games can keep their hopes of qualification alive.

I obviously feel they are a top team but, again, I think if we’re at our best, we can cause them issues,” said Bradley. “I’ve watched Molde for a long time because I was very interested in (their rivals) Bodo/Glimt and when the draw was made I felt they were the best team. Molde are 15 points clear at the top of their domestic League and a return to the Champions League is their main focus.

Molde have won both Euro duels against Irish clubs, 3-0 against Sligo Rovers in 2013 and 5-2 against Dundalk in the group phase of the Europa League in 2020. The Norwegians have won a record 11 league games in a row and are 15 points clear in the Eliteserien with six games to go. The challenge for Rovers is to repel Molde's blue wave if they are to stay in the frame for the Europa Conference League knock-out phase.

More woe for Shamrock Rovers in Europe (The42)

SHAMROCK ROVERS' hopes of a progression in the Europa Conference League suffered a significant blow, as they were beaten 3-0 by Molde in Norway tonight.

[#RoversInEurope] In fact, it was Molde who looked the more likely to add further gloss on the scoreline, as a powerful Hussain shot from the edge of the area was well saved by Alan Mannus. Rovers did introduce the likes of Watts, Neil Farrugia, Graham Burke and Roberto Lopes — back available after a long-term knee ligament injury — in the second half, but with the game all but over, it made little difference. Martin Linnes’ attempted cross took a deflection before coming back off the crossbar and the 29-year-old midfielder was on hand to fire home much to the delight of the sparse home crowd. The reigning Premier Division champions rarely attempted to play out from the back and put plenty of bodies behind the ball with what was a 4-5-1 formation at times that saw Emakhu as the lone striker with Aaron Greene on the right. It was a game that the Irish side seldom looked like winning, with the hosts in the ascendancy from the outset.

Tough night for Shamrock Rovers as Molde cruise to win (RTE.ie)

Shamrock Rovers lost 3-0 to Molde in their Europa Conference League group stage match at the Aker Stadion in Norway.

The Irish side continued to live dangerously and Molde should have had a second just shy of the half hour mark. Molde extended their lead on 58 minutes when Mannus failed to deal with what seemed a straightforward situation when he mishandled another Linnes cross under his own bar. The freedom which winger Linnes had on the Molde right side, in particular caused issues for the Hoops. The Molde captain was his effort on 18 minutes deflected away by Andy Lyons after Linnes had floated inside. The Hoops boss rotated his side, making five changes from an easy win over Sligo Rovers last Saturday. Etzaz Hussain netted Molde’s third in the second half, capitalising on an Alan Mannus mistake.

Unfortunately, Brynhildsen had added his second by that juncture, a close-range header after Kristian Eriksen’s effort came back off the crossbar. Stephen Bradley holds key players Jack Byrne and Rory Gaffney with eye to Tallaght return game.

“Fortunately it was not a test of patience as we got the early goal,” said Moe. To be fair, he suggested nothing of the sort. It was a familiar scenario for Bradley’s back three, quickly turning into a back five on the unforgiving pitches of Bulgaria, Hungary and Belgium already this season. A deep squad is essential when fighting on two fronts, but Neil Farrugia, Jack Byrne and Rory Gaffney are the sort of players needed to retain the domestic title. For Rovers, the show must go on. The home fans stayed away and Molde’s top scorer Darto Fofana was suspended but it barely mattered.
