At the Coperni show at Paris Fashion Week, Bella Hadid had a dress spray painted on her using a new fabric technology. We were just as confused.
“Fashion designers need new materials and fabrics to create products to address evolving lifestyles and consumer demands,” wrote the show notes. The story behind the spray on dress started with a can of silly string and a man named Dr. It took about 15 minutes, but as the men finished spraying on a dress, a woman came and cut a slit and pulled down Hadid’s sleeves to make an off-the-shoulder look. Their plan is to take this technology to the medical industry, being able to make casts or spray-on sterile bandages from aerosol cans. But that texture can change depending on what fibers are used (can be natural or synthetic fibers) and how it is applied. After two years, and lots of trial and error, he started to get results.

A nearly naked Bella Hadid was spray-painted with liquid fabric during the finale of the Coperni show at Paris Fashion Week.
The Spray-on fabric can be applied using aerosol technology, industrial sprayers, robots and 3D printing. Once it was dry, an attendant rolled down her sleeves, snipped off the hem and slashed the skirt of the white dress. The technology consists of short fibers bound together with polymers and bio polymers, and greener solvents that deliver the fabric in liquid form, then evaporate when the spray reaches a surface,”
Two technicians took to the stage to spray what seemed like textured paint onto the 25-year-old.
Coperni won ANDAM’s Creative Label Prize in 2014 which is a recognition for the label’s creative and commercial potential as well as being a finalist for the LVMH Prize in 2015.
