It is more than 100 years since England last went six competitive games without a victory, but they at least changed the narrative with this stirring comeback against Germany. Both sides needed a pre-World Cup tonic after poor Nations League campaigns with ...
VAR then awarded England a penalty, which [Harry Kane](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/142200/Harry-Kane) converted to give the home side a brief lead, before Havertz tucked away his second of the night to reach the final scoreline. [Nico Schlotterbeck](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/286828/Nico-Schlotterbeck)'s stamp on [Jude Bellingham](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/291281/Jude-Bellingham)'s ankle earned him a yellow card and a chance for England to take the lead from the spot, which Kane did with aplomb to the delight of the Wembley faithful. [Harry Maguire](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/157073/Harry-Maguire) fouled [Jamal Musiala](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/303821/Jamal-Musiala) in the area and were two up 15 minutes later when Havertz curled a perfect shot in from distance that left [Nick Pope](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/161715/Nick-Pope) no chance. [Raheem Sterling](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/156366/Raheem-Sterling) had the best chance to score for either side midway through the first half, but after his clever cut-back to get a clear look at goal his tame effort was palmed away by an onrushing [Marc-Andre ter Stegen](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/140740/Marc-André-ter-Stegen). [England](/soccer/team?id=448) rallied from two goals down to take the lead momentarily before drawing 3-3 with [Germany](/soccer/team?id=481) in a thrilling UEFA Nations League group stage finale at Wembley Stadium on Monday night.
England and Germany played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Wembley in the UEFA Nations League.
Kane was again on the scoresheet as he added to Raheem Sterling's opener with a second goal in 11 second-half minutes. 5 mins from kickoff: The players are in the tunnel. "It is great to see all the fans here. Foden and Raheem Sterling get in the box but the Tottenham striker's cross evades everyone. 25th min: Germany have had 65% possession so far but then England come so close to opening the scoring! But unlike his goal against Leicester this season this one doesn't fly in and barely troubles the keeper. Plenty of encouragement for Southgate to take into the World Cup with the open play goal drought ended. 51st min: Maguire gives the ball away sloppily and the Manchester United defender then trips Jamal Musiala in the box when one on one. Yet, on squad selections this year you feel Alexander-Arnold is at the bottom of his right-back pecking order and for a cautious Southgate, defensive stability is his priority, of which Alexander-Arnold isn't an option. The two combined brilliantly to draw the home side level and after Sterling missed a couple of chances in the first half, his Chelsea team-mate showed him just how it's done by rattling home his powerful strike at the first opportunity. On evidence of the 1-0 defeat to Italy last week, you'd struggle to see England getting out the group stage but there's plenty of positives to take from the second half, at least, against Germany tonight. The turnaround looked complete when Nico Schlotterbeck crunched Bellingham in the box, and again after VAR intervened, a penalty was awarded.
Prior to the contest between England and Germany on Monday, a brawl broke out at a pub, with German fans as the primary suspects.

The Germans went out to a 2-0 lead into the second half before Gareth Southgate’s team scored three consecutive goals. Though this particular incident did not occur inside a stadium, violence is a worrying trend at soccer functions. The pub in question is apparently regularly frequented by families. “The group entered the beer garden of the pub and began assaulting customers, most of whom were in the area to attend the England vs Germany match. Others were treated for facial wounds, but it does not appear that there were any life-threatening incidents. [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11252103/Moment-100-German-hooligans-armed-machetes-storm-family-pub-ahead-Wembley-match.html) has suggested that a portion of the attackers even wielded machetes and brass knuckles. Police did not confirm this report, but did say that there were obviously multiple injuries at the scene.
