1:53 p.m.: And the final match is now on the course. Finau lags up the birdie try for the win and Americans lead in every match right now. 3:12 p.m.: Pereira’s par putt on the par-3 slides by the hole. 2:20 p.m.: Thomas makes up for a terrible tee shot on the par-3 4th with a beautiful approach from the fairway bunker on 5. After a monster drive on the first hole of the “Green Mile” from Young, Morikawa from just 144 yards on the 497-yard par-4 hits it to 2 and a half feet. 2:14 p.m.: Mistake from the Texas twosome as Scheffler isn’t able to recover from a poor tee shot from Burns. 3:42 p.m.: Spieth goes for the green on the short par-4 but finds the water. 2:45 p.m.: Conners hits a wonderful second shot on the par-5 7th while Thomas’s approach just barely clears the water and gets cut up in the rough short of the green. 1:33 p.m.: Both sides make comfy pars and move on to the 3rd hole. 1:46 p.m.: Adam Scott burns the edge on his long birdie putt on 3 and left Hideki Matsuyama too much for the par putt. 2:22 p.m.: Schauffele hits a great approach on the monster par-3 6th. 4:05 p.m.: Americans get the first point on the board!

He is taking his childhood friend Jake, whose dad introduced Trama to the game. Woodsy had been in the hospital room too, and he gave his sidekick a good pet before heading off to surgery. A 14-hour drive to get to the He went through a series of tests to evaluate the function of his other organs and to determine his overall health. A work issue had cropped up; he wondered if I knew of someone who could put the tickets to good use. But Trama hadn’t competed in a long time, and Robb knew “he was so keen on going.” During the first round, Trama felt so poorly and found it so difficult to stand that he sat in the cart until it was his turn to play. He moved into his childhood home with his dad and sister (and Woodsy, of course), and the wait began. He worked at a great club, and his career was on the rise. There was a long pause when I asked Trama what he had said to his girlfriend, Katie, and his family before he went into surgery. On the back, he became so exhausted that he considered heading to the hospital. As soon as Robb dropped him off at home at the end of the four-hour ride back to Osoyoos, Trama jumped into his car and drove directly to the hospital. The direct message started, “I had a heart transplant six months ago…” It was in response to a tweet I had put out the other day.

The five key clubs for the International Team at the Presidents Cup (pgatour.com)

Quail Hollow Club, the venue for this week's Presidents Cup, is rightfully regarded as a big ballpark. But don't focus solely on the length of this layout ...

GolfWRX says: Matsuyama famously has high standards, as evidenced by the many times we’ve seen him hit a shot, hang his head and take a hand off the club in disgust, only to see the ball land near the hole. The hosel construction allows the putter to be face balanced, which means the putter face will face the sky when fixated on its balance point on the shaft, i.e. with my right foot kind of behind me a little bit, feeling the body moving, club staying in front of the body, and that helps with my rhythm, as well.” Pendrith’s G410 LST came out in 2019, and Conners’ G400 LST is even older, hitting the market in July 2017. By coupling low-spin technology with a stable design, Ping’s G400 series of drivers was a killer in the market and on TOUR. GolfWRX says: Like Pendrith, his fellow Canadian and former Kent State teammate, Conners is one of the TOUR’s top players in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee, but he does it differently. Nothing really special, but that's the model that I like and I've been using for the last four years.” As one of the best drivers on TOUR, Pendrith seems to find confidence with the familiarity of his Ping G410 LST, which hit the market in May 2019. With two drivable par-4s, a range of more than 60 yards in the par-3s and reachable par-5s mixed in with beastly par-4s, every piece of equipment will be challenged, especially when you consider the variety of formats in use this week. just take some practice swings, try and feel the body moving in sync, (take) a few practice swings … The last few days (at the Presidents Cup), just been feeling the good rhythm. As a PGA TOUR player, Pendrith has access to the latest and greatest drivers on the market, but he still sticks with his 3-year-old model.

Cameron Young may have just hit the most impressive first tee shot ... (GolfDigest.com)

If the Team USA rookie was feeling any extra jitters, he certainly didn't show it.

Not bad for anyone, but particularly for a guy hitting his first-ever shot at the Presidents Cup. Golf fans have gotten used to seeing Cameron Young hit bombs during an impressive rookie campaign that saw him rack up five runner-up finishes. Anyway, it wasn't a problem for Young.
