And while a garda helicopter hovered over the area tonight and the Emergency Response Unit was called to the area this evening, he said there is only one garda car available to patrol the entire Ballyfermot area, which he said is unacceptable. He said this evening’s incident underscores the need for more resources in the area to cope with anti-social behaviour, starting with more garda resources.

So I have to commend the driver of the vehicle and the observer who were able to extract themselves from that danger and ensure that the situation didn't result in any serious injury.” “I have to commend my colleague who was driving that car and I believe that the driver hadn't actually been properly trained. Tweeting last night, People Before Profit Councillor Hazel De Nortúin wrote: “Images and videos are being shared regarding the incidents in Cherry Orchard tonight. “Some local reps have been working together for more resources for the community. I will be asking once again for immediate support and resources,” he wrote. We have to look at this holistically as a conversation but if you look at it holistically from a garda perspective, and from our members perspective, we have the perfect storm. The gardaí who respond are possibly in a vehicle that's not suitable, there's an issue around driver training. Members going about their lawful duty and subjected to that sort of behaviour; it should be condemned by all politicians and community leaders in the area. Then you wonder, where the respect for the rule of law lies, where the gardaí have their rightful position in society to take on behaviour like this and be able to answer it and address it sufficiently and to be adequately resourced to do so when something like this happens. “Large groups of youths, cheering on others driving a stolen car and encouragement to ram gardaí in the area. There is an inherent danger when you see open encouragement of people to ram patrol cars. "The public order unit has been stood up.

If we chase them and they knock someone down or the driver crashes and is killed and he’s 14, GSoc will take a very particular line.” But overall, I would say there's been vigorous policing operations in that area over the last number of weeks. The moment a car rams a garda vehicle in Cherry Orchard last night. Image: Social Media Video. THE VIOLENCE IN Cherry Orchard which happened yesterday evening ...

Disgraceful scenes and terrible to see for AGSI and the Garda Representatives Association. The theft of cars has long been a problem for gardaí in the area. In effect, what we’ve done this brings forward our operation in response to anti-social behaviour around the Halloween period. He said: “Overall, I would say there’s been vigorous policing operations in that area over the last number of weeks. This has obvious implications for the effectiveness of their patrols” Injuries of gardaí in the area have been common. “There’s been a lot of enforcement work and a full investigation is underway. We’ve seized vehicles and arrests have been made. Frontline policing has been drastically cut while too many officers are tied up in excessive red tape and form filling. Evidence of the chaos was still there to be seen: glass shards littered green areas; patches of green were destroyed by fire and tyre tracks and tyre marks could be seen at the point where the young suspects performed handbrake turns. One of the cars then rams into the garda vehicle twice. I’ll be in trouble for saying that now.
