Shelbourne swoop past Bohs to book FAI Cup semis spot (RTE.ie)

Shelbourne beat Bohemians 3-0 at Tolka Park to book their place in the Extra.ie FAI Cup semi-finals.

Matty Smith and Shane Farrell combined well on the left for the latter’s cross to cause confusion in the visitors' defence. It was the 71st minute before Bohemians registered a shot on target, Brendan Clarke appearing to get a finger tip to touch a Jordan Flores shot onto a post. And they had McCracken’s vigilance to thank for not finding themselves further behind six minutes in, the goalkeeper racing off his line to tackle Boyd who looked in on goal from JJ Lunney’s ball over the top. The 21-year-old’s outstretched arms celebration in front of the Bohemians fans a gesture to his hurt at not being given a fair chance in his five years there under Keith Long. The ball dropped for Shels striker Boyd who was left holding his head in his hands as he blazed his volley over the top from scarcely six yards out. With Tolka Park drenched in September sun, it was the Shelbourne contingent in the full house of 3,600 who enjoyed a dominant first half by their side, the tone set despite a gilt-edged chance being wasted after five minutes.

In an all too familiar situation for the Gypsies, it was another mistake at the back that cost them. In came Jordan Flores, Max Murphy, Ali Coote and Kris Twardek as they desperately tried to salvage their season. Matty Smith linked up well with Shane Farrell, operating in the left wing back, and the Finglas man delivered a dangerous inswinging cross towards Boyd. The incoming midfielder had an almost From the resulting corner, Farrell picked up the ball wide on the left and put in yet another wonderful cross towards the back post and as the ball just wasn’t dealt with by the Bohs rearguard Boyd was more than happy to smash home on the stretch to double his side’s lead. It was a massive season defining FAI Cup quarter final for both sides, who have little to play for in the league as both sit comfortably in mid-table, and it was the much more coherent and impressive home side who continued their adventure in this season’s competition.

Waterford to face Shels and Treaty draw Derry in FAI Cup semis (Irish Examiner)

Derry put paid to any hopes Shamrock Rovers harboured of a first double since 1986 by beating the 10-man Hoops 3-1 at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

This year's final is set for November 13 at the Aviva Stadium (3pm). Treaty, in only their second season as a senior club, are the other First Division side to reach the last four and face their toughest task, and a long journey to the north-west, against Derry. Brace for Sean Boyd as Damien Duff's Shelbourne defeat Bohemians to reach FAI Cup semi-finals.

“I think Sean rubs people up the wrong way by the amount of bookings and red cards he gets,” Duff added. “He rubs me up the wrong way. Shels never missed a beat with Brian McManus coming from the bench to force a corner out of Bohs’ goalkeeper Jon McCracken that led to the second goal. “Sean’s first goal looked like something you’d see from Haaland,” said Duff, who recently sent Boyd clips of the Norwegian’s movement. We have to instil that in the players, instil that working class ethos that is behind this club, [in] fans that show up every week. “Today is a reflection of us on the whole year,” said Pender.
