Users can make up to five edits to a given message, and recipients will be able to see a record of edits made to the message. - The Health app adds Medications, allowing users to conveniently build and manage a medications list, create schedules and reminders, and track their medications, vitamins, or supplements. It allows users to quickly review and remove any access they’ve granted to others. - Dictation offers a new on-device experience that allows users to fluidly move between voice and touch. When users choose to share files for collaboration through Messages, everyone in a thread will be automatically added, and when someone makes an edit to the shared document, activity updates appear at the top of the thread. - Updates to Apple Maps enable further exploration of the world with improved driving and transit navigation, and multistop routing. Browsing in Safari is even safer with passkeys, a next-generation credential that can’t be phished or leaked, making it more secure and easy to use. With the biggest update to search in years, Mail features state-of-the-art techniques to deliver more relevant, accurate, and complete search results. With Focus filters, apps like Calendar, Mail, Messages, and Safari can display only the content that is relevant to a user’s Focus, helping them to find better balance. Users can also create unique designs with their favorite emoji and color combinations, and with multiple Lock Screens, users can switch between their favorites with just a swipe. Apple collections include iconic imagery from Apple; Pride and Unity wallpapers; a Weather wallpaper to see live weather conditions as they change throughout the day; and an Astronomy wallpaper for views of the Earth, moon, and solar system. New widgets on the Lock Screen make it easy to get helpful information at a glance like upcoming calendar events, battery levels, alarms, time zones, Activity ring progress, and more.

iOS 16—Brilliant New iPhone Features Available Now (Forbes)

Rapid Security Response · Passkeys · Unsend Messages · Lockdown Mode · Safety Check · In short · Apple launches iOS 16—and iOS 15.7.

I’ve already updated to iOS 16, but I am prepared for a few bugs in order to be able to try out the cool new features. But take note—the iOS 15.7 update is an important one, as it fixes 11 security issues, one of which is being used by adversaries in real-life attacks on iPhones. Two issues fixed in WebKit, the engine that powers Safari, could lead to code execution, Apple says on its support page. This could leave many people complaining of bugs, or worse, refusing to update and leaving themselves open to big security problems. Among the benefits, Apple’s solution to obliterate the password makes it hard for you to become a victim of phishing and keeps your credentials safe from website leaks. Safety Check is a useful privacy feature available in iOS 16 aimed at those who may be at risk from a controlling or abusive partner. Users can make up to five edits to a given message—although be aware that recipients will be able to see a record of this. Apple says Lockdown Mode provides “extreme protection for the very small number of users who face grave, targeted threats to their digital security.” The latest iPhone software comes with a bunch of brilliant new features that will be game-changing for your security and privacy. Apple fans have been asking for the ability to unsend messages for some time, and with iOS 16 the iPhone maker has finally launched this feature. Fearing iPhone bugs, many Apple users are left to decide between security and functionality when a new iOS version comes out. “Now your iPhone will get important security improvements between normal software updates, so you automatically stay up to date and protected against security issues,” Apple says.

14+ reasons enterprises should upgrade to iOS 16 (Computerworld)

When it comes to iOS, 16 it's not terribly surprising most reports focus is on consumer-friendly features. But there are lots of good reasons for enterprise ...

- iPhone 12 Given that Apple has made iPhone 14 eSIM-only in the US, another improvement that was slightly ignored on announcement now makes a lot of sense. It’s not perfect and the cost of exploiting it is such that most smaller enterprises will probably ignore it, but the move does add another layer of protection to help distinguish genuine corporate emails from spam. Apple has reached a deal with CloudFlare that lets users purchase email domains from within iCloud Settings. This is going to save a good deal of time for many businesses who have had to use a wired connection on the Mac to support some devices until now. Apple has also created two new APIs for MDM service providers, which enable IT admins to either enforce or prevent use of Rapid Security Response across their Apple device fleets. [working to reduce the need for authorization](https://www.computerworld.com/article/3663430/wwdc-apple-cloudflare-fastly-plot-the-end-of-captcha.html). [Declarative Device Management](https://www.computerworld.com/article/3663052/wwdc22-apple-brings-declarative-device-management-to-the-mac.html) makes managed devices more proactive and intelligent, which means MDM systems gather early warning signs in the event unauthorized changes are made to the device. This also makes for highly efficient device deployments alongside SSO. Apple introduced integration with Google Workspace earlier this year following previous support for Microsoft sync. [OAuth 2.0](https://oauth.net/2/), which supports additional identity provision systems from third-party services. But there are plenty of reasons for enterprise users to upgrade — including these [productivity-enhancing tweaks](https://www.computerworld.com/article/3670751/10-lesser-known-ios-16-features-to-make-work-easier.html).

How to Use 'Safety Check' and 'Lockdown Mode' in iOS 16 (WIRED)

Apple's two new security features give people in vulnerable situations ways to quarantine themselves from acute risks.

For a user who has concerns and wants to rein in the access other people may have to their location information and other data, Safety Check offers a tool called Manage Sharing & Access. This tool details the people and apps that have access to different information, like who is connected through Find My Friends or which apps can use a device's microphone. “I think it's commendable that Apple is taking measures to address security threats that are only ever likely to impact a tiny fraction of its user base.” Given this premise, the creation of purpose-built protective tools like Safety Check and Lockdown Mode is not just a logical progression but a necessary one. “People criticize Apple for not opening up iOS enough, and those folks would say this is just a token effort to silence critics. The feature comprehensively restricts any nonessential iOS features so there are as few potential points of entry to a device as possible.

This is the one iOS 16 setting you need to activate right away (Tom's Guide)

The new iOS 16 update for iPhones allows certain models to display a battery percentage in the status bar. Here's how you can enable it for yourself.

Also, the [iPhone XR](https://www.tomsguide.com/us/iphone-xr,review-5868.html), [iPhone 11](https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/iphone-11), [iPhone 12 mini](https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/iphone-12-mini) and [iPhone 13 mini](https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/iphone-13-mini), despite having Face ID, can't display the percentage either, so tough luck if that's what you happen to own. Make sure you read our full [iOS 16 review](https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/ios-16) for our overall thoughts on this update's additions. It's a shame this isn't something [iPadOS 16](https://www.tomsguide.com/news/ipados-16) appears to be adding, but at least it's consistent across all models for now. [We saw this feature added quietly during the iOS 16 beta](https://www.tomsguide.com/news/iphone-14-pro-could-bring-back-this-very-useful-feature), but now that anyone owning an [iPhone 8](https://www.tomsguide.com/us/iphone-8-and-8-plus,review-4675.html) or later can download the final version of the software, you too can turn on the battery percentage indicator. [how to customize your lock screen](https://www.tomsguide.com/how-to/how-to-customize-your-iphones-lock-screen), [how to set up My Sports in the iOS 16 News app](https://www.tomsguide.com/how-to/how-to-set-up-my-sports-on-the-ios-16-news-app) and [how to change the way iPhone notifications are displayed in iOS 16](https://www.tomsguide.com/how-to/how-to-change-the-way-iphone-notifications-are-displayed). First off, you need a model with Face ID, so the iPhone 8, [iOS 16](https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/ios-16) has just arrived for all eligible iPhone users, and if that includes you then we highly recommend you try out the new option to display a battery percentage icon in the status bar. [iPhone SE 2020](https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/apple-iphone-se-2020-review) and [iPhone SE 2022](https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/iphone-se-2022) are disqualified. If you want to see your battery percentage on any iPhone, including the models named above, remember that you can check by opening Control Center, which you do either by swiping down from the top right corner on a Face ID iPhone or by swiping up from the bottom of the phone on a Touch ID iPhone. [best iPads](https://www.tomsguide.com/best-picks/best-ipad) aren't capable of showing the percentage indicator. The only annoying thing about the new feature is that you can't have both the visual battery indicator and the percentage display at the same time; it's only one or the other, I'm afraid. Toggle the Battery Percentage to on (green).

Apple iOS 16 Release: Should You Upgrade? (Forbes)

Apple iOS 16 has a lot of bugs... iPhone and iPad owners beware.

The most important is for [CVE-2022-32917](https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2022-32917), a vulnerability in the iOS Kernel, which has the potential to allow hackers to execute malicious code on your iPhone and iPad. Expect iOS 16.0.1 or even iOS 16.1 to launch quickly. So I would expect iOS 16.0.1 to arrive within days and 16.0.2 and iOS 16.0.3 to follow soon after. The security updates are essential, but they can be added via iOS 15.7, But I can also reveal a lot of bugs in the new releases, and upgrading now is a risk. The new lock screen controls are the real headliner. Apple typically pushes several dedicated bug fix updates after each new iOS / iPadOS generation. If you are running newer beta software (see ‘The Road Ahead’ section at the end), you must [unenroll your device](https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/unenroll) before the update appears. Live Captions will work on devices with the A12 Bionic chip and later, which includes the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, the second-generation iPhone SE, and iPhone 14 series devices. The new battery percentage toggle was added in an earlier beta of iOS 16 over the summer. The feature works by using advanced neural networking and image detection to detect the subject in a photo, so it's not available on all the devices that support iOS 16. Since the new Dictation experience uses on-device machine learning, it is limited to devices with processors that can handle the heavy lifting. You can then drag the subject out of the Photos app and into Messages, Mail, Notes, and more.
