He inked a new contract extension that made him the highest-paid player in NFL history on a $50.27 million annual deal - and all eyes will be on Rodgers. Arguably the best defensive player ever, Aaron Donald cemented his legacy as he made several game-defining plays as the Los Angeles Rams stormed to victory in Super Bowl LVI. He was double-teamed on 64% of rushes but still tallied a win-rate of 23.1% - the 31-year-old dominates teams at will and he's back after dismissing retirement rumours. Aaron Rodgers threw 4,115 yards and 37 touchdowns to just four interceptions in a stellar 2021 campaign that saw the quarterback win his second successive and fourth overall MVP award. The Buffalo Bills quarterback showcased his talent during the opening game of the season against the Rams, with Josh Allen scoring four overall touchdowns as he inspired his team to a 31-10 win in LA. Cooper Kupp was arguably the most dominant player in the NFL last year, and he could be considered the best offensive skill player (outside of quarterback) in football after securing the triple crown. Watt is the best edge rusher in the NFL. Arguably the best defensive end in the NFL, Myles Garrett registered a career-high 16 sacks in 2021 while adding a forced fumble thanks to his tremendous hit power. However, Henry still finished ninth in the NFL in terms of rushing yards with 967 while adding 10 touchdowns. In his last season with the Packers, Adams put up 1,553 yards and scored 11 touchdowns - but all things come to an end. All will be revealed as the NFL kicks off its second season with a 17-game slate, with seven teams set to make the playoffs in either conference. The NFL deserves credit to make it feel like a year-round sport, with events like the draft, free agency and training camps taking place - but nothing comes close to [the on-field action](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/other-sports/american-sports/josh-allen-jalen-ramsey-comments-27948027).

That held true for most of the game, with the Steelers limiting the Bengals to a field goal on a red-zone trip before the half, and the unit stepped up when it mattered most, strip-sacking [Joe Burrow](/players/joe-burrow/)and pushing the Bengals out of field goal range in overtime. In the end, however, there were too many missed opportunities to score more points for the Falcons as 12 of their points were off the foot of [Younghoe Koo](/players/younghoe-koo/). [Minkah Fitzpatrick](/players/minkah-fitzpatrick/)pick) for a touchdown. Mayfield scored on the ground, fired a 75-yard touchdown pass to [Robbie Anderson](/players/robbie-anderson/), and led a scoring drive to put the Panthers ahead. And then, thanks to the contributions of [Christian McCaffrey](/players/christian-mccaffrey/), Carolina woke up -- and nearly won the game. Swift displayed burst to the hole, shiftiness in space, a third gear in the third level, and a willingness to take on contact. Three turnovers (two by [Mac Jones](https://www.nfl.com/players/mac-jones/), including a strip-sack return for a touchdown) put the Patriots behind the 8-ball, and this is not a team built to erase big leads.

Baker Mayfield and the Panthers lost to the Browns, Joe Burrow and the Bengals had an inexplicable showing against the Steelers and the Patriots were a dud.

The quarterback threw an interception, and the Panthers faced a two-touchdown deficit. Dobbins and left tackle Ronnie Stanley as they face the New York Jets in an early-afternoon game in East Rutherford, N.J. A blocked extra-point pushed things to overtime for an extended dose of insanity before the Steelers won, 23-20. on the first Sunday of the NFL’s 2022 season, two went to overtime, including one that ended in a tie. Only the Dolphins’ takedown of the Patriots and the Ravens’ win over the Jets could be considered blowouts. For starters, the Bears won.

The NFL kicks off in earnest Sunday, Sept. 11 with a full slate of games after the Bills and Rams opened up the season on Thursday Night Football.

In an inter-conference matchup, Patrick Mahomes takes on newly extended Kyler Murray in Chiefs vs. The slates are full at 1 p.m. Matt Ryan will begin his new life in Indianapolis against the Texans, whereas the Patriots and Mac Jones look to take the next step against Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and the Dolphins. The NFL kicks off in earnest Sunday, Sept. The AFC champion Bengals will begin their conference title defense against the Steelers, who are living in the post-Ben Roethlisberger era. Both the 1 p.m.

Even the painted sidelines started to lose their form in a way that made it seem like the ground crew was drunk when they put them on there. Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., and Allegiant Stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders all opened in the past five years and have set a new standard for the live N.F.L. Puddles formed everywhere, and players struggled to find their footing pregame and early in the match. The Eagles traded for the former Titans receiver in April and promptly signed him to a four-year, $100 million contract extension that paid off Sunday with dunks all over the Lions’ secondary. Brown hasn’t solved anything as far as Hurts’s hesitancy to throw over the middle, a tendency that showed as Philadelphia eked out a 38-35 win over Detroit. The other five players (Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, It took Brady 240 games to do it, almost four times as many as Mahomes (64). The 2018 NFL MVP became the fourth player since at least 1950 with 300+ pass yards, 5+ pass touchdowns and no interceptions in a Week 1 game. Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season is almost in the books and several teams made statements in their games, for good and bad.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5) - The Buccaneers' defense held the Cowboys to three points in a 19-3 win. San Francisco 49ers (10) - We're willing to give San Francisco a mulligan in the season opener. Buffalo Bills (2) - This team knocked off the defending champions in Los Angeles in Week 1 and looked really good in doing so. Philadelphia Eagles (9) - The Eagles edged the Lions, 38-35. Houston Texans (31) - The Texans tied the Colts in Week 1. Indianapolis Colts (8) - This team is supposed to roll to the division title. Green Bay Packers (6) - Maybe losing your top wide receiver in the offseason is not a recipe for success? Tennessee Titans (19) - We thought we might have been down too much on the Titans before they lost to the Giants in Week 1. A tie with the Texans in Week 1 is not the way to do that. Cleveland Browns (25) - We didn't think Cleveland would beat Carolina in Week 1, but they found a way to get a 26-24 win. Carolina Panthers (23) - The Panthers came very close to winning their season opener against the Browns in a 26-24 loss. Dallas Cowboys (11) - Dallas looked awful in Week 1 and now has Dak Prescott's injury looming over the team.

A 20-20 draw, sad Bill Belichick, game-deciding referee decisions, a laces-in field goal that decided a game, and a sloppy Soldier Field that turned a battle in the trenches to a literal battle in the trenches, like it was something out of World War I. The Packers looked like absolute ass, but they looked like ass in Week 1 of 2021 too — remember, that’s when they were blown out 38-3 by the Saints in a game where Jameis Winston threw five touchdowns and looked absolutely indestructible.
