A vigil has been held in memory of the two children who died in a car fire near Multyfarnham in Co Westmeath, on Friday.

Psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service have already been in the school and will remain in the school tomorrow to support pupils. The principal said that teachers and classmates will remember her as "warm, happy and vibrant" member of the school community. In a statement, Mr Dermody said the school was "devastated" to learn of the sudden death of Thelma, a senior infants pupil at the school.

While gardai declined to comment on the outcome of the post-mortems, a source said: “due to the extent of the injuries sustained by both deceased children, formal identification of the children will be required by DNA comparison and this process will take a period of time.” A toy tractor and scooter belonging to the younger children lay silently in the garden - a heart-breaking reminder of the fun the children should have been enjoying in their front garden on a normal Saturday. A vigil will be held this evening in memory of two children aged two and five who died in a car fire last Friday near Multyfarnham in Co Westmeath.

Results of the post mortem examinations are not being released for operational reasons. Post mortems have concluded on the bodies of both deceased by the State Pathologist Dr. The children’s mother Lynn Egar, was airlifted to hospital and is not believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries.
