Ní Chofaigh withdraws RTÉ sexual harassment case at WRC (RTE.ie)

Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh has withdrawn a sexual harassment case taken against RTÉ at the Workplace Relations Commission.

The hearing was also told that Ms Ní Chofaigh confirms that no compensation was paid to her in the context of the agreement. Her barrister Claire Bruton BL read a statement at the opening of the hearing, stating that her client "withdraws her allegation of discrimination by the respondent". Ms Ní Chofaigh was not present at a brief hearing at the WRC this morning.

Television presenter Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh has dropped her sexual harassment case against RTÉ at the eleventh hour, saying she wants to 'draw a line in the.

The hearing was expected to last for four days. The statement was confirmed by Mairéad McKenna BL, for RTÉ. She stated that no compensation was paid to the presenter in the context of the agreement. Ms Bruton had said her client was anxious for the case to proceed, but that she had agreed to the temporary postponement. Claire Bruton, Ms Ní Chofaigh’s barrister, read a statement at the opening of the hearing, in which she said that her client was withdrawing the proceedings before the WRC. However, adjudicator Breiffni O’Neill was told that the case was no longer going ahead – and that no compensation had been paid to Ms Ní Chofaigh.

She said agreement had been reached to “move on in the context of an ongoing working relationship”. Her barrister Claire Bruton read a statement which said her client “withdraws her allegation of discrimination by the respondent”.

Four days had been set aside for the hearing of the case which was due to get underway yesterday morning where Ms Ni Chofaigh was expected to give her testimony.
