Week 1 NFL game picks: Rams knock off Bills; Seahawks surprise ... (NFL.com)

Will the reigning champion Rams open the season with an upset of the Super Bowl favorite Bills? Is Broncos QB Russell Wilson in for a rough return to ...

It’s Pete’s Super Bowl, except this time he won’t [pass at the goal line](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJnsU6wqTNM). They’ll make [Lamar Jackson](https://www.nfl.com/players/lamar-jackson/) earn it. I’m optimistic Josh McDaniels’ staff will improve both units to average, and Chargers cornerback The Titans might not field an explosive attack, but they have years of experience on both sides of the ball, while the G-Men are just starting a rebuilding year. I initially had Jacksonville winning this game, but flipped the pick when I thought about how this Washington staff is in its third season and should be further along in the program than a new Jags group, at least in Week 1. The other man is Matt Patricia, who added [DeVante Parker](https://www.nfl.com/players/devante-parker/), a player the Dolphins were happy to give up. [Joe Flacco](https://www.nfl.com/players/joe-flacco/) to start this early AFC North gauntlet in [the schedule](https://www.newyorkjets.com/schedule/), with [Zach Wilson](https://www.nfl.com/players/zach-wilson/) now out until Week 4, [at least](https://www.nfl.com/news/jets-qb-joe-flacco-to-start-vs-ravens-with-zach-wilson-recovering-from-preseason). [Jack Conklin](https://www.nfl.com/players/jack-conklin/) can't get healthy. The Colts outscored the Texans 62-3 last season, so a score like this would mark substantial progress for Lovie Smith's team. It's a wild world when the Bengals have the more stable QB situation and more loaded overall roster in this AFC North matchup. [Jameis Winston](https://www.nfl.com/players/jameis-winston/) knows this scheme better than he did a year ago and his weapons are vastly improved. While Buffalo’s pass rush should be better, the cornerback depth chart is a legitimate weakness until [Tre’Davious White](https://www.nfl.com/players/tre-davious-white/) is back.

[Darrell Henderson](https://www.nfl.com/players/darrell-henderson/)extensively early in the game — and on all eight plays of the opening drive — while [Cam Akers](https://www.nfl.com/players/cam-akers/)mostly sat. [Kaiir Elam](https://www.nfl.com/players/kaiir-elam/)and [Christian Benford](https://www.nfl.com/players/christian-benford/)(a sixth-rounder who played FCS ball a year ago) held up extremely well, and [Dane Jackson](https://www.nfl.com/players/dane-jackson/)had a pick. Mix that in with the outside zone toss plays — a Kyle Shanahan staple — that appear to be a new wrinkle and Dorsey was able to keep the Rams’ defense off-kilter several times. Some of his usage can be attributed to the score getting a bit out of hand. Then on the first play of the fourth quarter, Allen faced a Cover-0 blitz and dialed up a deep ball to [Gabe Davis](https://www.nfl.com/players/gabe-davis/)for 47 yards. On the TD drive that put the Bills up 17-10, Dorsey used Allen as a runner a few times, resulting in his highlight-reel stiff-arm of Rams safety Stafford’s first interception looked like a miscommunication with tight end [Tyler Higbee](https://www.nfl.com/players/tyler-higbee/)— hard to know who’s to blame. On the second INT, Stafford tried to dial up his Super Bowl magic with the no-look (three-quarters arm angle) pass to [Cooper Kupp](https://www.nfl.com/players/cooper-kupp/), but Stafford was high and off-target with it. [Matthew Stafford](https://www.nfl.com/players/matthew-stafford/)is fully healthy. Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey was in his bag early on in his first regular-season game as a play-caller. But anyone watching Thursday’s game knows that the first one was clearly on the receiver; chalk the second pick up to a great play by Rams cornerback [Troy Hill](https://www.nfl.com/players/troy-hill/), who read the throw beautifully. [Josh Allen](https://www.nfl.com/players/josh-allen-4/)didn’t have a perfect night.

As for the Bills, this is their chance to lay down a real marker against the reigning Super Bowl champions. The 31-year-old - heralded as the perhaps the greatest defensive player in NFL history - said: “I give a lot of credit (to Miller) definitely for that playoff run. During his time with the Rams, Miller grew close to three-time Defensive Player of the Year Donald and his impact was immediate. McVay’s remarkable record will be under threat as the Bills - armed with quarterback Josh Allen, receiver Stefon Diggs and edge-rusher Von Miller - come to town. It means the Rams - even with an array of stars like Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp, Jalen Ramsay and Matthew Stafford - are deemed underdogs in their first match since winning the franchise’s second championship. The Rams will unveil their banner on Thursday night, but they will certainly be fixated on

NFL talking points for week one including Tom Brady vs Dallas ... (Irish Mirror)

The all-knowing scheduling powers undoubtedly trembled with glee at the thought of sending Wilson back to Seattle in week one. This is a fascinating clash to watch given both teams possess superstars either side of the ball - and it is a popular choice for the lineup in Super Bowl LVII in Arizona next February. The NFL’s schedule gods must have licked their lips and rubbed their hands together when they decided to place Brady’s clash with the iconic Dallas Cowboys on the opening slate of matches. This is an organisation who experienced tremendous success in the 1970s, accomplishing a perfect regular season along with triumphing in Super Bowl VIII. Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson was perhaps involved in the biggest move, as he finally left Seattle to join the Denver Broncos in a fascinating twist. Josh Allen and the Bills may have fallen to the brilliance of Patrick Mahomes once more, but the electric quarterback showed off his remarkable arm power as he simply went over the Chiefs secondary to the delight of receiver Gabriel Davis.
