(As did Ariana Grande, though [in an admittedly less-than-positive light](https://www.cinemablend.com/television/nickelodeon-vet-jennette-mccurdy-candidly-explained-her-jealousy-of-co-star-ariana-grande-and-how-tom-hanks-played-into-it).) Jennette McCurdy confirmed there was a 14-year difference between their ages, and while she understands why her mom was disapproving of that fact, the former actress still did not condone the older woman's behavior, as she apparently sent many similarly conceived messages regarding her daughter's romantic interests. As it usually goes, emotions were all over the place as the conversations went on throughout the episode, with the mother and daughter hosts regularly shocked by the stories that McCurdy was sharing, some of which were read directly from the memoir’s text. [her negative experiences at Nickelodeon](https://www.cinemablend.com/television/2563739/why-icarly-star-jennette-mccurdy-is-ashamed-of-nickelodeon-past) and beyond, Jennette McCurdy stepped away from the world of acting around the year 2017, shifting to writing and directing short films in the ensuing years. The Sam & Cat star also read out a full email that Debbie McCurdy reportedly sent in August 2012, which started off as noted below (with certain words in all caps as they were displayed in the email’s text). And of all the disturbing stories that have come out of it so far, the iCarly vet shared a particularly vile email from Debbie that offers a nutshell-take on their splintered relationship.

iCarly's Jennette McCurdy says mom forced showers with brother to ... (INSIDER)

McCurdy detailed the emotional and physical abuse she experienced from her mother, who died from cancer, during an interview on "Red Table Talk."

McCurdy said she's still working to heal from her childhood. She also justified the group showers by saying she had "too much to do," and bathing McCurdy and her brother together would speed things up. Her mother hoarded, forcing McCurdy and her three older brothers to sleep on mats on the floor, she said. Since then, McCurdy said she has gone to therapy to heal from the abusive relationship dynamic. Because of her mother's cancer diagnosis, McCurdy felt like she could never say "no" to her. There, her mother seemed to agree with the doctor's concern over McCurdy's low body weight.

On “Red Table Talk” Wednesday, McCurdy got candid about the last conversation she had with her mother before she died of breast cancer in 2013.

I have two nieces that I adore and a third on the way. "I believe that she cared more about my body and my weight than she did about anything else that could possibly be uttered by my brothers’ mouths.” Part of it was an effort by McCurdy to maintain her already-petite stature. For 24/7 crisis situations, text "NEDA" to 741-741. She was in a hospice bed that was set up in our living room, and she was really just detached behind the eyes,” McCurdy recalled. “Her cancer had spread to her brain. And to think you wasted it on that hideous ogre of a man,’ ” McCurdy read. “My brothers had each given their good news of their lives. Sometimes, she craved her approval and validation – so much so that people-pleasing became instinctual, and she inadvertently gave up control over her diaries, schedules, relationships, finances and even body during shower checkups. … I told your brothers about you, and they all said they disown you just like I do. You used to be my perfect little angel, but now you are nothing more than a little –all caps– slut, a floozy, all used up. I understand why she was disapproving.
