Chelsea vs Dinamo Zagreb UEFA Youth League ratings as Boehly ... (Football.London)

Todd Boehly was in the stands as Chelsea fell to defeat 4-2 against Dinamo Zagreb.

Soonsup-Bell - Chelsea struggled to get their primary striker involved, though Soonsup-Bell was foiled early in the second half when trying to get a strike off. He netted two impressive headers to try and keep the Blues in the game. He was unfortunate not to score in the opening half after a good run and was a constant threat when he moved to the left in the second half. Lewis Hall - It took a little while for Hall to gauge his radar, but he was soon spreading the ball well and provided a precise assist for Leo Castledine. He grew into the game as it wore on and combined well with Thomas in the second half. Bashir Humphreys - The youngster's leadership qualities were on show as he tried to get his teammates to remain composed in difficult circumstances.

Ex-Blue midfielder Pat Nevin speaks on Thomas Tuchel under no pressure to succeed and Wesley Fofana being worth every penny.

They wouldn't have had the quality. They have a very strong squad now and I think Todd Boehly will be demanding top four, but they're a way off challenging for league titles." You're asking a lot of Chelsea if you want them to win trophies at the moment because they're in a massive transitional period. [Wesley Fofana](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wesley-fofana/profil/spieler/475411) and [Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pierre-emerick-aubameyang/profil/spieler/58864) and how they would impact the team. "The new directors are very cool. If Chelsea really needed Fofana - which they did - then the fee they paid is absolutely the right number and if they hadn't signed him this season then I don't think they would've finished in the top four.

Chelsea beat West Ham 2-1 on Saturday and there are some changes to their team. Sterling and Auba play a one-two and the forrmer's goalbound effort is blocked by Ristovski! Zagreb win the ball in their own half and they counter at breakneck speed! Very little to report here, at the moment. Since the goal, Zagreb have been in complete control and Ademi could've even made it two. Ristovski tries his luck from 25 yards and Kepa has to dive to his left to tip onto the woodwork!

Didier Drogba: The Chelsea hero whose bond with Jose Mourinho ... (Irish Mirror)

Drogba came to define a trophy-laden era at Stamford Bridge, but where does he rank among the nominees for the Best Premier League Transfers Ever?

Drogba bowed out on a high, leaving west London for stints in China and Turkey before returning to Chelsea to work under Mourinho again in 2014. Drogba posted lighter returns in 07/08 and 08/09, but was back to his very best in 09/10 under Guus Hiddink - he netted 29 in 32 League games as Chelsea beat Manchester United to the title by one point, while also lifting the FA Cup. In 2011/12, Chelsea and Drogba were poor domestically; the striker scoring just five League goals as the Blues finished a lowly sixth. Drogba won the Premier League title in his first season in England, scoring 16 goals in all competitions. A late bloomer in France, Drogba's career had stalled at the age of 21 - but he earned a move from Guingamp to Marseille in 2003, and an excellent season at OM saw Chelsea part with £24million for his services. As he showed that season, Drogba was a big-game player...

Tuchel admits summer one of the 'most difficult moments' in ... (Football.London)

Thomas Tuchel has been speaking to Rio Ferdinand about how the summer period has been one of the "most difficult" moments in his managerial career.

We lose key players – one of the captains in the dressing room in Toni Rudiger, and you lose a high potential player in Andreas Christensen. It changes always, it feels like that, and we've done it now in pre-season and the start of a new season which makes it more demanding." It's been "intense" – to say the least – for Tuchel. [BT Sport's 'Between The Lines'](https://go.skimresources.com?id=76202X1558242&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bt.com%2Fsport%2Fwatch%2Fvideo%2Fclips%2F2022%2Fseptember%2Fbetween-the-lines-with-thomas-tuchel&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.football.london%2Fchelsea-fc%2Fnews%2Fthomas-tuchel-todd-boehly-chelsea-24943132), Tuchel told Ferdinand: "It's a rollercoaster, that's a good explanation for it. Then, a huge summer transfer window took place, with the club bringing a host of new players for an estimated £250million. Back in March of this year, former Blues owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government, and that put the immediate future of the club in serious doubt.

Chelsea looked poor across the board in a loss to Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, and their start to the Champions League offered few positives.

[Jorginho](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/165778/jorginho), 5 -- Replaced Kovacic in the 59th minute and tried to move the ball and make things happen, but couldn't manage to find a way through the Dinamo defence. [Christian Pulisic](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/225607/christian-pulisic), N/R -- Replaced Sterling in the 75th minute and tried to get into dangerous areas but couldn't quite make them count. [Armando Broja](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/291535/armando-broja), 5 -- Replaced Aubameyang in the 59th minute and flashed a ball towards the front post moments after coming on as he tried to inject some extra energy into their play. Chelsea sack Thomas Tuchel and target Brighton's Graham Potter (The Guardian)

Chelsea have sacked Thomas Tuchel as manager and are expected to approach Brighton for permission to speak to Graham Potter.

The owners began to see the same complaints from him and the same excuses but no solutions, with Zagreb representing the nadir. “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club,” a statement said. Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard in January 2021 and won the Champions League four months later. Tuchel came to feel he had too many players to accommodate and not enough he could count on. Boehly’s data analysts had pushed for the Everton midfielder after being impressed by some of his performance metrics. Chelsea have spent a record £266m in one window to bring in Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang among others.

Chelsea fall to shock defeat at Dinamo Zagreb (RTE.ie)

Mislav Orsic's early goal condemned listless Chelsea to a chastening 1-0 Champions League defeat at Dinamo Zagreb.

Stefan Ristovski almost doubled the home lead by firing a rasping shot on goal from distance. Chelsea’s attack broke down on the edge of the Dinamo area and the home side powered upfield. Debutant Aubameyang teed up Sterling only for the England forward’s shot to be well blocked. Two passes later, Orsic had outstripped Wesley Fofana and dinked past the despairing Kepa Arrizabalaga. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was denied a debut goal when he tapped in from Ben Chilwell’s cross only for the England full-back to be ruled offside from Mateo Kovacic’s pass. Croatia forward Orsic’s breakaway goal proved enough for Dinamo to topple the 2021 Champions League winners at the Maksimir Stadium.

Mind over money: Chelsea winners, losers and ratings as Dinamo ... (Goal.com)

Chelsea spent about £272 million in the summer transfer market, including a reported fee of £75 million for centre-back Wesley Fofana.

Part of that is down to the players, of course, who weren't sharp or decisive enough. Returning to a five-at-the-back system, Chelsea looked frail defensively and clueless in the attack against a Dinamo team they should have steamrolled. That, most likely, is a result of playing alongside a new team-mate, with the two certainly needing time to adjust to each other's tendencies.

Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here. Chelsea have since slipped to three defeats in seven matches at the start of the new campaign, with Tuchel’s tactics changeable and his demeanour increasingly tetchy. Boehly and Behdad are thought to have felt Tuchel had lost his way tactically, struggling to get the best out of players as had been his early Chelsea trademark. Chelsea’s new owners were understood to have been desperate for Tuchel’s tenure to continue as a success, but a nucleus of growing problems left them feeling the only option was to make a change. The Chelsea owners are understood not to have lined up a replacement, in order to complete the process by the book. Chelsea’s new board is thought to have analysed Tuchel’s 100 games as Blues boss, identifying a worrying trend of 24 goals conceded in the first 50 matches and 53 in the second 50.
