Rick and Morty season 6 premieres with its first episode this week. Here's how you can watch "Solaricks" live and online.
Morty has defied Rick and tried to hurt him on more than a few occasions. Rick may be growing as a person, but he can’t get over his anger and self-pity. Rick and Morty will continue to give you everything that made the show popular. Poopybutthole, Birdperson, and Mr. Fans finally saw what happened to Rick Sanzhez and why he’s an angry, bitter drunk. The season 5 finale is a perfect example of this.

"I guess this is how it ends…" says Rick at the start of 'Solaricks'. "I thought I was better than this. Dramatic voiceover while stranded in space? I guess ...
From what we’ve seen of Weird Rick, however, his ruthlessness (and total lack of self-consciousness when it comes to nudity) suggest he’ll remain quite the adversary – a fact the Jerry from the Cronenberg universe learns to his cost when he tries to join forces with this toxic brand of Rick. - Rick describes the familial bickerfest of Jerry’s home universe as having "some real season 2 vibes". Rick, meanwhile, finds himself back where the bad Rick he chased for decades – the one with the non-descript haircut and cool sci-fi jacket, widely referred to as "Weird Rick" – killed his original wife and daughter. While ‘Solaricks’ isn’t quite up there with Rick and Morty all-time greats like ‘Pickle Rick’ and ‘Total Rickall’, it displays a similar appetite for throwing ingenious concepts at the screen as one-off gags. The true hero of the episode, however, is Summer, whose evolution from the annoying older sister of the early days to bona fide foil for Rick continues apace. This is an episode unashamedly engineered to keep devoted Rick and Morty fans happy, but it also remembers that high-concept sci-fi references, unashamed silliness, and occasional, unexpected moments of heart are integral to the show, too.

In Season 2, episode 2, "Mortynight Run," Rick and Morty leave Jerry at a daycare for off-planet Jerries, so the doddering dads won't die in an adventure. He risked the lives of his Beths for a showdown in a stealth space station. In that episode, as here, Summer was trusted with the instructions and devices to save Rick and Morty from their dumb choices. He was taking the killer's place to lie in wait, and for all the time he's been adventuring with Morty, Killer Rick never came back. When the Citadel sent Ricks to reclaim C-137's portal gun from Morty and Summer in "Rickshank Redemption," they froze the surviving Smiths. In "Solaricks," a bearded, badass Jerry informs Morty that this ice killed "Hunger Games Summer" and made Beth fatally ill. In "Rick Potion #9," a love potion gone wrong turned everyone not related to Morty into a "Cronenberg" monster, hungry for Smith family flesh. Season 6 picks up with Rick and Morty stranded in space in a broken-down escape saucer. In ravenous grief, Rick C-137 set out across the dimensions, slaughtering any version of himself that he could find to kill the Rick who killed his family. Rick and Morty were left behind in the crumbling Citadel of Ricks, from which they narrowly escaped after his portal gun fluid was contaminated by Evil Morty. Season 5 built the canon for Rick Sanchez with a pair of intense episodes. Rick and Morty has returned with a bonkers premiere episode, "Solaricks."
'Rick and Morty' co-creator Dan Harmon breaks down the Season 6 premiere's revelations about Rick's past and Morty's grandpa.
And we did amazing work, but as far as the embrace of “Rick and Morty” as this massive franchise with a natural canon and serialization to it, that spoke of drama to me on an emotional level, and in the midst of all this tumult, I think there was an unconscious desire to avoid that. So the long answer to your question is then, going into Season 6, when there was a little bit more stability, a little feeling of getting to start now, again, in a post-Mendel world, I think the first thing that came up was, are we going to tell an overarching story here about Rick’s one-armed man and his “Fugitive” kind of thing? We lost our father figure, Mike Mendel, who was the master over at “The Simpsons,” and then he was the reason why “Rick and Morty,” in spite of its kind of punk rock-ness, was still able to compete in an adult business. Rick Prime and Morty Prime have been together ever since, though they did abandon Murder Rick’s world for an exact replica when it was Cronenberg-ed half way through “Rick and Morty” Season 1. Well, their grandpa died and they’re going to Bed, Bath & Beyond because they don’t want to deal with it and they’re sorting those candles in kind of a crazy way. He was very much the dad to everybody in that office and then he was gone, and no one, not even him, could have predicted it.
It may not be the wildest season premiere the show's ever done, but this collection of family adventures feels more rejuvenation than reset.
[Mort Dinner Rick Andre](https://www.indiewire.com/2021/06/rick-and-morty-season-5-episode-1-review-mort-dinner-rick-andre-recap-spoilers-1234645270/),” this latest season premiere dangles the possibility of a more serialized path, something that the show has followed either in spurts or in the background. A perfect button to help soak in an episode that takes all this show’s angst about the momentary and builds it out into something that can really last. (The second biggest might be Digest-o-bot’s reaction to “eating” a tomato.) After all the effort it takes to get this family back together again in a manageable timeline, having Rick hop out of his ship and neutralize an enemy alien with a few spritzes from a spray nozzle is “Rick and Morty” not being afraid to Turning down the slashing and shooting sounds on Summer and the Beths’ space fight therapy session at the Citadel shows that “Rick and Morty” has already had its share of In a weird way, even with the sheer tonnage of plot this episode manages to fit into 22 minutes (all without feeling overstuffed), this is a decent starting point for any curious newcomers still wondering what all this “Rick and Morty” fuss is about. [the events of “Rickmurai Jack”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZLnHWTfP8I#t=24)), Rick has to contend with the disembodied memory of his late wife Diane, mocking him for his failures and oversights. To the Rick who’s had years’ worth of time to reflect on a family he stumbled into, “haunting” means something else entirely. Maybe the biggest laugh is Morty’s face as he sees Rick and Digest-o-bot enjoy a lovely homemade sandwich while he has to nibble away at his own nutrient goo. That moment of the two of them in the belly of the multi-mouthed space jellyfish hits home just how much these two are, well, copies of each other. What follows in this episode is a breakneck parade of every reason why these two (and the show that contains them) have so much more still to live for. “Yeah, forgot I wanted to be haunted” is a classic example of Rick managing to outthink himself. In broad strokes, “Solaricks” is a prelude to a family reunion.

At the end of “Solaris”, our version of the family returns to find their original Jerry in a huff because Rick has stored another “boogens” in the house. In “The Rickshank Rickdemption”, Summer and Morty dig up the corpses of that dimension’s original Rick and Morty and use dead Rick’s portal gun to travel to Morty’s Cronenberg home. We know that our Morty came from a universe that he and Rick Cronenberg-ed in “Rick Potion #9.” But when he returns to his dimension in “Solaricks”, he only finds an apocalyptic version of his dad. While trying to reset his portal fluid, Rick accidentally resets all interdimensional travelers, forcing the Rick, Morty, and Jerry (Chris Parnell) we know and love to return to their original universes. It’s less clear what the Rick and Morty version of the Cosmic Cube will do. After a disappointing adventure with a dragon in “Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim’s Morty”, Rick says, “Should have taken me up on those Wolverine claws instead, Morty.” You know what that is?
Rick and Morty emulates Avengers: Endgame in its Season 6 premiere, which looks back at past plots to demonstrate how much the series has grown.

Having an unrepentant version of Rick serve as a villain provides a great way for the show’s writers to have an outlet for his most brutal lines and actions, even as the primary version of the character continues to change. Rick’s original world is a nightmare of his own making where he’s literally haunted by his dead wife and has kept his entire neighborhood trapped in his grief. Season 2 saw Jerry (Chris Parnell) embodied as a cowardly worm, but he’s one of the most improved characters in the show. The Season 6 [Rick and Morty](/tv/rick-morty) premiere “Solaricks” explicitly parodies that film as it replays the same story beats with an excellent action-packed episode that demonstrates just how much the show has grown and hints at the depths it’s only beginning to explore.
Rick and Morty's season 6 premiere reveals more answers to the biggest questions that fans have long wanted to know.
– Rick and Morty has a clearer vision than ever before. Evil Morty shared a connection with the Sanchez family too, of course, but this one is far more personal than anything we've seen on the show thus far. Unlike the Butter Robot from season one – "What is my purpose?" "And then there’s another consideration, which is, 'OK, when is your show allowed to be so canonically indulgent? "People have to wait a long time between seasons." "Let's just do this for everybody that's been waiting," he added. After a while, fans start to long for an actual connection beyond the jokes, which is something co-creator Dan Harmon reckoned with during our own roundtable chat. The story isn't over just yet though. The [season five finale](https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a37474257/rick-and-morty-season-5-finale-evil-morty/) ended with some [pretty squanch revelations](https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a37255372/rick-and-morty-season-5-episode-8-beth-dead/), including Evil Morty's ultimate goal as well as [the truth behind Diane's death](https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a37474257/rick-and-morty-season-5-finale-evil-morty/). So yes, the questions and mysteries that have become this show's bread and butter will continue to define Rick and Morty still in season six and beyond. But we're entering a new era it seems, one where canon matters more than ever.
