Weekend traffic arrangements for people living in the Stradbally area (Laois Nationalist)

There is no facility for through traffic. Traffic travelling from the Heath on the Friday, Sunday and Monday will be restricted and a diversion at Buddocks Cross may be introduced to facilitate the dedicated route for large buses/coaches making their way to the designated festival pick up/set down area. Traffic travelling from Vicarstown on the Friday will not be allowed to enter Stradbally and a diversion at Garrons Cross will be in place.

Drones banned in Stradbally area during Electric Picnic (Laois Nationalist)

THE use of drones in Stradbally and surrounding areas will be banned throughout the Electric Picnic weekend, with the exception of authorised aircraft.

The airspace within the TRA is restricted to use by aircraft authorised by the event organiser. The TRA includes Ratheniska, Oughaval Woods, Knockbawn, Rathteague, Garrons and Kiltown, as well as the festival site and the town of Stradbally. The purpose of the TRA is to ensure the safety of aircraft operating into and out of the festival site.

Airspace over the Electric Picnic in Stradbally has been banned by the Irish Aviation Authority. This means aircraft or drones are not permitted to fly ov.

Major tailbacks are continuing on the way to Electric Picnic, as the festival kicks off amid warnings of possible flooding this weekend.

Turn right at the Roundabout onto the N77 to Meelick Junction where traffic route merges with event traffic from M7 Northbound and Limerick South West. Continue to Rockdale Roundabout and turn left onto the Ring Road L26964-0. Travel along the N80 and N78 to Simmons Mills and proceed via the Windy Gap into Stradbally. The national forecaster said low pressure near Ireland will bring showers and longer spells of rain throughout the weekend, and it is likely to be heavy at times in some areas. The east will have a mix of showers and sunny spells before rain arrives in the evening. The Dublin band will come on after Pixies, WIllow and Bright Eyes.

That night, things will get wet and blustery once again, clearing to showers from the south by morning. Friday is due to start off mostly cloudy with scattered heavy rain in the east and showery outbreaks of rain in the west. Highest temperatures will range from 15 to 20 degrees, and will thankfully be warmest in the east, with fresh to strong and gusty cyclonic variable winds that will become southerly and moderate during the afternoon. On Sunday, rain which is due to be heavy at times will gradually clear northwards in the morning, followed by sunny spells and a few showers in the afternoon. Saturday will feature a cloudy start in the morning with rain persisting in part of Ulster and Leinster throughout the day, but sunny spells and showers push into the south and west, according to predictions. Friday night will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain turning persistent and locally heavy at times as temperatures drop as low as 12 degrees in Ulster and Leinster, in light variable winds.
