Time is running out for clubs to do business in the transfer window. "Klopp's midfield, and indeed the system itself, is heavily reliant on the press-resistant, pedigreed pass-master Thiago. The player is flying now, he's flying from Turin to Liverpool. The midfield acts as enablers for the full-backs and the forward - a source of steel, stability, cover. "He is an excellent plan - but for his availability, which was no secret when he was signed from Bayern Munich. "Naby Keita is another who is rarely available but contributes rare progressive qualities. He scored four goals in 72 appearances with the La Liga club over two seasons. And to avoid missing out on any of the news wherever you are, look out for live streaming of Sky Sports News on the If we are not convinced, then we will not do it. Liverpool take Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus to solve midfield ... (The Guardian)

Liverpool have addressed their midfield shortage by signing Arthur Melo on a season-long loan from Juventus after Jordan Henderson injured a hamstring.

Liverpool tried to sign Aurélien Tchouaméni from Monaco this summer but the France international was set on a move to Real Madrid, whom he joined in a €100m deal. But the 26-year-old has made only 24 starts in Serie A and found himself on the margins of Massimiliano Allegri’s plans last season. The Brazil international travelled to Merseyside for a medical on deadline day after an approach from Liverpool in the early hours of Thursday.

Arthur Melo to Liverpool: Injury-prone but technically brilliant, Brazil ... (Sky Sports)

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Brazil midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan from Juventus; the Reds found themselves light in midfield ...

It is a worrying trend which goes part of the way to explaining why Arsenal decided against moving for him in the January transfer window. Chiefly, though, he is someone who can help his team dominate possession and unpick opposition defences. Only one player, Manuel Locatelli, has averaged more passes in the final third. He has won a total of 22 caps for Brazil and played a key role in his country's Copa America triumph back in 2019. Over the course of his first season at the club, he only started more than three consecutive games on two occasions. Does he have the robustness to play under Klopp?

Liverpool FC Transfer Scouting Report: Arthur Melo (The Liverpool Offside)

With the Reds getting a warm body in the door to stave off their injury crisis, we try and get a sense for what their new man can contribute.

On the other hand, the worst that can happen is he doesn’t do a whole lot and leaves at the end of the season having not impacted the club’s ability to go after their top targets next summer. The Reds could be getting a player desperate to improve his standing in world football and break back into the Seleção as he enters his prime. Or they could be getting a player downtrodden by the cynicism of international football, simply moving from one frustrating situation to the next without the motivation to re-engage and take charge of his career. Once he has achieved control and worked himself a bit of space, the other thing Arthur excels at is moving the ball along. A single loss of possession per game on average is also testament to the former Grêmio man’s press resistance and ball retention ability. The 26-year-old possesses terrific fundamentals and rarely takes a bad touch, even in tight areas, using close control, balance, and vision to ensure the ball does what he wants it to do.

Liverpool broke their transfer policy for Arthur Melo – but he could be ... (Football365.com)

Liverpool need midfielders and Arthur Melo is very talented. But his injury record in less physical leagues than the Premier League is a worry.

Whether this particular move works out or not is, of course, up in the air, but at least Liverpool’s financial exposure is minimalised, and some may fear that this is just as well, considering Arthur’s unfortunate record with injuries. Arthur is certainly a player of the historical calibre that might be expected to sign for Liverpool. Of course, this subtext may end up adding a little spice to the occasion should he be selected when the two teams meet at the Emirates on October 9. This signing is a reflection of those injuries. That this player should be going to Liverpool is also something of a shock. But in some other respects, it is rather less of a surprise.
