Retiring Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador CEO Craig ... (SaltWire Network)

After 21 years leading charge to aid municipal governments, he's ready for a new challenge.

I love every single part of the park. You could be a century away from it, but you feel like you're there and you know what it smells like and what it sounds like and all that kind of stuff. I don't do that sort of thing. things I can do to help the sector, to help the conversations between governments and that sort of thing. I don't have a lot of toys. But also to make sure that the work we do at MNL is very focused on good governance and making sure people understand the value of governance and the value of the democracy that we have here. We're in the middle of something really spectacular here that other parts of the world would love to have. And that was a lot of long nights, a lot of working very closely with the management team to make sure that next week we are still open and making sure our members are protected and supported. Like everybody, we shifted to working from home, but of course, an organization like MNL, a lot of our money comes from the events we have, and all of our events were canceled. I knew I wanted to do something else before I actually retire and sort of stop ... "I did a lot of travel with them, I did workshops with them, and it was an interest of mine ... And I think at the time MNL was looking to beef up that policy side of their work, and I think that's how I got in there.

โ€œThat the creation of a civilian-led police oversight board has such decisive public support shows this is an idea that resonates well beyond the urban Indigenous community. That same report also includes proposals for strengthening and streamlining the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Public Complaints Commission and the provincial Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT-NL), with a view toward improving confidence in both. A question about provincial voting preference also found the Conservatives and Liberals in a dead heat at 21 and 20 per cent, respectively.
