McHale, meanwhile, worked with McStay during their stint in charge at Roscommon, where they won a Connacht title in 2017. Rochford and Buckley worked together at Mayo previously, when Rochford led Mayo to consecutive, one-point defeats in All-Ireland finals to Dublin. McStay has beaten off competition from Ray Dempsey, Mike Solan and Declan Shaw in the race to replace James Horan.
