Cork City took a major step towards the First Division title after beating Cobh Ramblers in St Colman's Park. City are now seven points clear at the top.
With ten minutes remaining, City struck to go into the lead. But City got back on level terms just past the hour mark. In the 50th minute Cobh went into the lead. The goal at that stage was the least Ramblers deserved for their efforts. There were two great chances at either end on the half hour mark, City had an excellent opportunity to take the lead, but Britton headed over from close range. Not long afterwards, Ruairi Keating got a low shot away inside the box, which was easily dealt with by Cobh goalkeeper Paul Hunt.
It was a seismic night in the race for automatic promotion and Colin Healy's quest was helped by Bray Wanderers beating Galway United.
Cobh had no time to rest on their laurels as a loose ball was snatched by Bargary and this was ran out for a corner by Flemming. Harrington pounced and palmed this out for another corner, and this was easily cleared by the City defence. Shane Keeganโs team clearly sense something was in the air, as Charlie Flemming chased down a ball that was trickling out for a goal-kick. Ramblers did everything to try and get a draw against their near rivals. OโLeary put this in and Brendan Frahill dinked this down towards the bottom right corner of the goal. It was there that he met Josh Honohan and the defender muscled in to win the ball back for his side.
