It falls favourably for the hosts and Carlos Auzqui is on hand to slot home from close range. 94 mins: Ferencvaros 4-0 Shamrock Rovers - The Hoops surely bound for the Europa Conference League as substitute Eldar Civic sets the seal on the night for the Hungarians with a slightly ugly volley— RTÉ Soccer (@RTEsoccer) Here’s a look at the fourth goal… [https://t.co/JYf06csaIG] [pic.twitter.com/1bUlkbpl44] [August 18, 2022] Here’s a look at the Rovers penalty shout shortly before the fourth goal was scored. The Hoops got to this stage by beating KF Shkupi over two legs and will be significant underdogs against the kings of Hungarian club football.
Emakhu is one of the six players missing the first leg against Ferencvaros. 3 mins gone and the home side have enjoyed the majority of possession and look dangerous in attack. Aaron Greene is tackled from behind and earns a free-kick. Gannon tries to run in behind but it is ruled offside after a promising passage of play from Rovers. Sean Kavanagh tries a very cute cross from a free-kick but the Rovers attackers had just strayed offside. Rovers trail 2-0 at the break against a classy home side but there have been some signs that Rovers could sneak a goal in this one and have something to play for in Tallaght. Seemingly no changes for Rovers at half-time. Mmaee hit the post moments before he turned provider to set up Traore to score from close range! Disaster for Rovers at the start of the half. This time it is Boli who breaks through the middle for the Hungarian side before Mannus makes a very good save to deny Marquinhos. Rovers have a mountain to climb in the second leg in Tallaght against a high quality side. This time it's Rover's turn on the counter-attack as Jack Byrne releases Farrugia to drive towards goal down the right wing but shot is always rising over the bar.
Stanislav Cherchesov, who led Russia to the 2018 World Cup quarter-finals, and who labelled Rovers as a team that plays a British style game.
'I got a number of assists last season but scoring goals is something I want to improve on. He'd get a nine out of ten, then a two out of ten. While a cluster of stellar names such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Roma, Lazio, Feyenoord and Real Sociedad lie in wait in the draw for the group stage on August 26. He's become a seven out of ten that you need at this level,' said Bradley. Across the continent, the likes of Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, Malmo and Gent flex their muscles today in pursuit of future involvement in UEFA's second tier competition. 'We know it's a step up.

Midfielder Jamie Lennon said it was a frustrating result after their victory in Bulgaria in the first leg. The penalty that decided the tie came via handball, but appeared to strike the arm of a CSKA player first. You couldn’t fault anyone’s attitude.”

Mannus again came to the rescue by turning over the latest in a succession of shots as Brazilian Marquinhos continuously toyed with the home defence. And Mannus’ colleagues let him down again by failing to pick up Ediar Civic from the resultant corner. The nature of the goal was especially painful. He sidestepped a couple of defenders to pound a curler off the right post before Carlos Auzqui nabbed the 13th minute breakthrough. A fourth by Eldar Civic in stoppage-time didn’t flatter the hosts either. That room allowed him to pick his spot with a downward volley from the edge of the box into the right corner.

While they were outclassed, when Rovers do their video analysis, there will be moments for introspection on the goals they conceded. It could have been much more as Rovers defenders suffered lapses in concentration and couldn't keep up with the physical qualities of their opponents. They moved the kickoff earlier in the evening, presumably so Ferencvaros could make the most of it. "In fairness to Rovers, they were arriving into extreme heat, 36 degrees, which didn't help obviously. Rovers might make the biggest comeback in the history of the League of Ireland. But they will need to score at least four goals at home against Ferencvaros to do that.
Stephen Bradley's side were hammered 4-0 in Budapest in tonight's Europa League play-off.
Gannon’s reaction was baffling and disastrous, squaring the ball across goal to the feet of Traore, who couldn’t miss. It might have been worse before the break for Rovers, as their trio of centre backs gave a good impression of being terrified by Mmaee’s direct running. Ferencvaros started with pace and intent, and Moroccan forward Ryan Mmaee cut inside and bent a shot off the post after only eight minutes. Rovers’ appearance in this game was a major achievement, whereas Ferencvaros’ was a disappointment – they were knocked out of the Champions League by Qarabag last week. Thus Rovers picked a bad time to become beset by unavailability, including captain Ronan Finn through suspension and European regulars Chris McCann, Aidomo Emakhu and Graham Burke because of injury and illness. SHAMROCK ROVERS ARE heading for the Europa Conference League group phase after a chastening night in Budapest, outclassed 4-0 by Hungarian champions Ferencvaros.
It was déja vu all over again for Shamrock Rovers as a 4-0 defeat to Hungarian champions Ferencvaros all but ended their Europa League group stage hopes.

And the hosts hit the front shortly after as Mats Knoester beat Dan Cleary and Lee Grace to a low cross and it was smashed home from close range by Auzqui.
Eldar Civic's injury time volley which caught out the otherwise excellent Alan Mannus put a scoreline on the board that the hosts would feel was justified on ...
Rovers were paddling and, while they did have a decent spell after the water break, Mmaee was always ready to pounce when numbers were committed. It could have got worse with Mmaee squandering another pair of chances. They didn’t have the same level of success here. Shamrock Rovers conceded bad goals, with individual mistakes contributing, yet the margin of defeat was fair enough on the balance of play and chances created. Irish sides need to be at their absolute peak to trouble opponents of this quality and Bradley’s charges were well off that. Make no mistake about it, the better team prevailed and with a degree of comfort.
Shamrock Rovers slipped to a first-leg Europa League play-off defeat away to Hungarian giants Ferencvaros on Thursday evening.

Shamrock Rovers' Europa League group stage hopes appear all but over as they had no answer to the slick, attacking threat of Hungarian champions Ferencváros at ...
The ball was rolled across goal to give Adama Traore a simple tap-in. With Rovers ragged at the back, delightful play might have added to that three minutes later; Nmaee playing a one-two with Lorand Paszka to fail in the finish as he shot tamely at Mannus. Rovers then stood off a little too loosely to allow the clever feet of Nmaee to get off a shot that was comfortably dealt with by Mannus as the home side, roared on by a raucous support, began to really stretch the visitors. Rovers were then exposed as danger man Nmaee cleverly slipped off the shoulder of the too static Sean Hoare on to Laidouni’s pass in behind. Moroccan Ryan Nmaee found a pocket of space to rifle a shot from the edge of the area Rovers were relieved to see come back off a post. But it wasn’t long before the League of Ireland champions survived a let off as they gave the ball away cheaply in an attempt to clear.
By Matthew Foley. Shamrock Rovers suffered a 4-0 defeat to Hungarian Champions Ferencváros in the first leg of our UEFA Europa League play-off tie.
It was a difficult night in tough conditions in Budapest, but the Hoops will have learned a lot from the experience of coming up against quality opposition. It was a disastrous start to the second half for Bradley’s side as Ferencváros made it 3-0 just two minutes after the break. The substitutions brought more energy and calmness to Rovers’ game, but Rovers were just lacking the cutting edge in the final third. A short corner caught out the Hoops defence and a deflected cross ended up at the feet of Carlos Auzqui who finished from close range past Alan Mannus to give Ferencváros an early lead. Mmaee was once again involved as he found himself in behind the Rovers back line, with his low pass across the face of goal finding Adama Traore who made no mistake putting the ball into an empty net from six yards out. Shamrock Rovers suffered a 4-0 defeat to Hungarian Champions Ferencváros in the first leg of our UEFA Europa League play-off tie.
