I read it, and I was like, ‘Oh fuck, this is so good!’ Now I am going to have to cancel my plans, put the Guinness down, and make the tape.’” I don’t want to make a fucking tape—it’s Christmastime!’ My agent told me to read it, and I was hoping it was shit, so I didn’t have to cancel my Christmas plans. “First of all, I got the script the day before Christmas Eve,” she says, “and I was like, ‘I don’t want to have to audition.

For 90 per cent of my Zoom with Eve, I am in bits - there is rarely a moment without laughter with Eve around. Take the opening scene, for instance, whilst Grace (Ann Marie Duff) mourns for her husband at his open casket in her living room, his corpse spontaneously gets a hard-on which, as Eve says, “sets the tone perfectly.” So think [Big Little Lies](https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/topic/big-little-lies) on (Irish) craic. [Zoom](https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/zoom-face-self-confidence) call - as we discuss her killer new [TV show](https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/topic/tv-shows), Bad Sisters - but trust me, it’s not as malicious as it sounds because it’s entirely obvious the only way Eve could murder you is with a good time, fuelled by Guinness, unlike her latest character, who would actually murder you. Bonkers is the tone of the day, in fact. “The first episode is when you have to introduce the characters, introduce the world and blah blah blah, but it gets so bonkers as it goes on. Here Eve talks about the changing face of Hollywood and the power of sisterhood in her own life.

Actor, comedian and filmmaker Sharon Horgan says her new dark comedy thriller "Bad Sisters" is a celebration of family ties.
So, I hope there's something perhaps in there that can actually say something and resonate with people in a way that could mean something to them," said Bang. Have a look at the exclusive clip below, and hit the comments with your thoughts. TV Fanatic got the chance to screen the series ahead of its debut, and it packs a compelling mystery. But other than the fact that he does die, nothing is set in stone and anything is possible. In making the victim so irredeemable and therefore making his killer the good guy (at least in my eyes), Bad Sisters sets itself apart from its contemporaries. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that Grace’s four sisters were most likely responsible for, or at least directly involved in, John Paul’s demise. Sharon Horgan serves as executive producer, co-writer and part of the starry ensemble cast in this new thriller, the first sign that the 10-episode dark comedy is worth your time. Usually, they involve a miserable detective desperate to solve the suspicious death of a defenceless woman in an effort to save his career or his own marriage, or something equally disconnected from the actual case.

There are so many "you probably shouldn't be laughing at this" moments in 'Bad Sisters', to the point where you're entirely sure that the writers' room is on a watch-list somewhere for some of the stuff they've come up with. The conniving bastard that he is, he's got some form of dirt on all of them and that's not even starting with how he's trying to control his own wife and daughter too. He thinks the death in question - that of Claes Bang - isn't quite so innocuous as it seems.
This wicked revenge fantasy about five sisters who attempt to kill a monstrous husband is wonderfully cathartic, perfectly paced and hugely witty.
He is now expanding his reach and beginning to do the same to his early-teenage daughter – policing her diet, her social life and even pocketing her confirmation money for his own use. Wittily directed (by Rebecca Gatward, Josephine Bornebusch and Dearbhla Walsh) and gorgeously shot, this is a fine addition to the growing collection of stories told unapologetically for, by and about women on mainstream television. Just as perfectly portrayed is the other sisters’ appreciation of what is happening and their powerlessness to do anything about it. Bibi (Sarah Greene) is fiercely uncompromising, Becka (Eve Hewson) is the slightly aimless baby of the family, and Grace is the only one even slightly mourning the death of her spouse John Paul (Claes Bang). With painful, pinpoint accuracy, he is shown to have been a controlling, coercive, borderline physically violent man who has spent the years of his marriage to Grace eroding her strength and her spirit. [Bad Sisters (Apple TV+)](https://www.apple.com/uk/tv-pr/originals/bad-sisters/) is an adaptation of The Out-Laws – the Belgian series by Malin-Sarah Gozin, which was [described by this here very organ](https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2016/jul/13/the-out-laws-is-this-the-blackest-comedy-ever) as “the blackest comedy ever”.
Anne-Marie Duff, Cork actress Sarah Greene, Eve Hewson and Brian Gleeson are all in it but it just doesn't work for me.
The actors, Horgan included, make the most of what they’re given. John Paul is a genuinely sinister piece of work, controlling Grace’s contact with her sisters and taking an over-keen interest in his daughter’s eating habits. But the rest of it is light-hearted farce, including the early scene where Grace is trying to hide John-Paul’s post-mortem erection at the removal. It’s put in there for a cheap laugh and Sharon Horgan isn’t usually about cheap laughs. Even more annoying, Claffin turns up at the afters of the funeral to investigate John Paul’s demise. The sisters answer his abrupt questions rather than booting him out the door.

Bad Sisters delivers what contemporary streaming demands: narrative franticity and cliffhangerism of the sort that compels viewers to binge. Much of the fun of Bad Sisters lies in the fantasizing of intricate assassinations. For Eva and her sisters, the worst part is the way JP treats Grace: calling her “Mammy,” undermining her fragile confidence, restricting her movements and generally reducing her to a ghost of her youthful self. So does PJ Harvey’s baleful rendition of the Leonard Cohen song “Who By Fire,” itself a list of fatalities and methods of dispatch: “Who in her lonely slip, who by barbiturate?... The ten episode series quickly reveals itself as a quirky whodunnit, filed somewhere between Only Murders in the Building and Dead to Me, with a touch of Fleabag’s rumpled charm. The very first time we glimpse JP, he’s lying in a coffin, where Grace tries to hide his posthumous boner with a bit of her embroidery.
