The woman's body was found with unexplained injuries at Ardshanavooley, Killarney, at around 1.15pm on Monday. She has been named locally as Miriam Burns.
Cllr Grady said it was his understanding that one of Ms Burns’ sons had telephoned a neighbour to ask them to check on his mother as he had not heard from her for a few days. Tributes have been paid to the 75-year-old with local councillor Niall O’Callaghan saying: "She was a fabulous lady. Ardshanavooley is a mature and close-knit estate on the eastern edge of Killarney town centre. However, the garda stressed the circumstances were unexplained. Her body remained at the scene this morning, awaiting the state pathologist. It is understood she had not been seen since Friday evening.
The body of Miriam Burns was discovered on Monday at 1.15pm on the Ardshanavooly housing estate in Killarney.
