The multi-sport European Championships Munich 2022, featuring Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Canoe Sprint, Cycling, Gymnastics, Table Tennis, Triathlon, Rowing, Sport Climbing, takes place 11th-21st August on the 50th anniversary of the Olympics Games in the Germany city. This is a massive 69-percent increase on the intentions for the last standalone European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam in 2016 - in the Olympic year - and an almost 30-percent increase on the 1,180 hours of intentions for the standalone Zurich 2014 European Athletics Championships. The multi-sport European Championships has once again provided a huge boost to the pre-event broadcast plans for the European Athletics Championships programme, with 1,525 hours set to be broadcast on a live or delayed basis across Europe from Munich. And Karamarinov has loved getting a taste of the atmosphere and enjoying the benefits the European Athletics Championships can reap from the multi-sport event. “I remember watching the 1972 Olympics on TV, and I was also here for the 2002 European Athletics Championships - it is always a great crowd. Munich's unique atmosphere and the innovative nature of the multi-sport European Championships functions as the perfect precursor for this week’s athletics programme, according to European Athletics president Dobromir Karamarinov.

Coscoran qualifies for 1500m final at European Athletics ... (BreakingNews.ie)

A semi-finalist at last year's Tokyo Olympic Games, the 26-year-old clocked 3:38.74, a time surpassed in the previous heat by just the winner, Jakob ...

I knew there were four fastest losers spots up for grabs,” he said. “I got the small q and made it through to the final, that was the aim to come out here and make it to the final, and I did that.” So I went for it. European Indoors fourth-placer Healy looked curiously out of sorts in the second half of the race, and was eventually well down in sixth place in her first round heat. The Star of the Sea AC athlete avoided being boxed in over the last lap, saving him precious tenths of seconds, and though he was well run out of the top four automatic qualifying positions, taking note of the previous times on the night proved a useful tactic. Coscoran may have finished seventh in a semi-final where only the top four were guaranteed progress, but the slowness of the previous heat was enough to elevate the Irishman into his first major outdoor Championship final.

This is the 20-year-old's first senior outdoor championships and he started with a bang. "I'm happy I did that in the first round and I'm looking forward to the semi-finals tomorrow." The first two in each semi-final and the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers will make the final. Israel Olatunde ran a scorching personal best of 10.19 to win his 100m heat in the morning session. The composure Coscoran displayed despite his difficult passage was arguably the most impressive aspect of his performance, with the 26-year-old adding: "I was boxed in at the back, but I was relaxed – I didn't really panic – I just kind of expected to be able to come through. With just two heats of the event to qualify for the medal race, there was little room for error, with the first four home from each heat progressing and the four fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

Team Ireland schedule for Day 2 at European Athletics ... (Pundit Arena)

It's another busy day for Team Ireland as Day 2 of the European Athletics Championships takes place in Munich on Tuesday.

Sharlene Mawdsley was a late addition to the 400m event with Sophie Becker focusing on the 4x400m set for later this week. He clocked a 3:38.74 (7th place) to secure one of the fastest non-automatic qualification places. Both athletes will be looking to progress to Friday’s final, but both races look to have plenty of depth including GB’s Laura Muir who will line up alongside Healy in the first semi-final. He will be joined in his semi-final by Italian Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs. The Newport AC ran a great race to narrowly missed out on progressing to the semi-final in 52.63. Mawdsley will be another returning to the track later in the week with the 4x400m relay team. Phil Healy went in the first of the 400m heats but her 6th place 53.10 was not enough to progress to Tuesday’s semi-final. The first four in each heat (Q) and the next four fastest (q) advance to the final. Attention then turns to the 400m events, with Chris O’Donnell in the Men’s Semi-Final 1 at 11.25am and Rhasidat Adeleke in the women’s Semi-Final 3 at 12.16pm. Rounding off Day 2 for Team Ireland will be Darragh McElhinney (ranked 12th) and Brian Fay (ranked 11th) in the 5,000m final at 8.08pm. Both athletes have had superb seasons to date and will likely track each other as they bid to break into the top 10. After a hugely-impressive heat on Monday, Israel Olatunde will take part in the Men’s 100m Semi-Final 3 at 7.19pm. Olympian Sarah Healy (4th on the all time Irish list & U23 record holder) goes in the first of the 1500m semi-finals this morning🤩 It’s another busy day for Team Ireland as Day 2 of the European Athletics Championships takes place in Munich on Tuesday.

They all know who the discus girl is, and I think I want to stay in this position for a long time.” “The European Championships is always very special to me, because my first major medal was a European gold medal - in Barcelona in 2010. In Munich he starts day two with 4661 after a trailblazing opening day in which world champion and world record-holder Kevin Mayer sadly failed to stay the course. “This is really like a dream,” said Schilder. “I did not expect this to happen at the end of the season. Ehammer won that race, clocking 10.56, and followed up by uncorking a 8.31m long jump that erased Daley Thompson’s 1978 championship decathlon best of 7.93m. It was a tactical event, mentally and my mind was strong." “It was a great battle. I gave it my absolute everything.” “I knew it was going to be an extremely tough day for me. “I just needed a little more, an extra push, and it happened,” she continued. Poland's Aleksandra Lisowska won a historic gold medal in Munich on August 15 by winning the marathon on the opening day of the 2022 European Athletics ...

That time puts her on top of the U.S. list for 2022 and ranks her No. 8 in the world. The frontrunner in the field is 2019 world champion Ruth Chepngetichwho won Chicago on a hot day last October in 2:22:31. The 28-year-old Kenyan has run the fourth-fastest women’s marathon of all-time (2:17:08) and the third-fastest half-marathon (1:04:02) The out-and-back race starts and finishes in the historic mining town of Leadville at 10,160 feet above sea level and sends runners on a journey over Sugarloaf Mountain, along parts of the Colorado Trail and over 12,600-foot Hope Pass and back. Gebreslase was the bronze medalist at last year’s Tokyo Olympics (2:18:18), Salpeter (2:17:45) owns the sixth-fastest women’s marathon time in history, while Obiri is a two-time world champion at 5,000 meters making her marathon debut. Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a 10-time world champion, three-time Olympic gold medalist and mother of 5-year-old son, Zyon, ran a world-leading 10.62 in the 100 meters on August 11 at the Diamond League track meet in Monaco. The 35-year-old self-named “Mommy Rocket” is the first woman to break 10.7 seconds six times in a single season. With the clock showing 2:20:50, Epis had fallen back (and eventually finished fifth) and Lisowska and Dattke had pulled ahead of Brinkman and Parlov Kostro. Moments later, Lisowska began to surge and reached the 40km point in 2:21:18 in the lead. Other notable results from that meet included Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon winning the women’s 1,500 meters in a near-record of 3:50.37. That’s the second-fastest time ever run behind Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba’s 3:50.07 on the same track in 2015. She remained tucked in the pack as higher-profile runners Sara Moreira (Portugal), Miriam Dattke (Germany), Nienke Brinkman (Netherlands), Fabienne Schlumpf (Switzerland), Giovanna Epis (Italy) and Fionnuala McCormack (Ireland) did most of the work. Brinkman, Dattke, Lisowska, Epis and Matea Parlov Kostro (Croatia) were the only athletes who remained in contention. “In fact, the first 30 kilometers were too slow for me so I tried to attack the pace a bit so I could go ahead. “From the start, I felt I was in total control of the race,” she said. Lisowska won the race in 2:28:36 amid hot, sunny conditions and thousands of spectators lining the streets.

The head was very negative, but once we had turned the corner at around 20k and I realised the last 15k was where I should be good, I was able to turn it around. “I did a session last Monday and aggravated my shin, so I haven’t walked since then. I noticed her a bit late, but I’m into the final so I’m grateful for that." I probably would think my fitness is there, I just wasn’t able to use it today as much as I wanted to. Muir is obviously a world-class athlete and she showed me that at Commonwealths. But I went out in that race with the aim of trying to win gold and battle for it and I’ll do the same here. “I wanted to stay out of trouble, I saw the men’s 1,500 yesterday and it was scrappy and I saw the boys fall back. “It felt good, it felt controlled, that was a season’s best but I know I’m in shape for much faster than 4:03. All eyes are on Friday and my full focus is on that. In a typically honest assessment of her race Healy — as she did in Tokyo last year — said the matter may well be psychological. I’ll keep working at it and I believe my day will come eventually.” I keep learning the same lesson at every major championships, so it’s tough.” “It went exactly as I thought, I was prepared for any race,” said Mageean, the 10.15am local start of no bother to her. “It’s quite a quick turnaround compared to Worlds, so I wanted to try conserve a lot of energy, but I guess I thought I was comfortable in second. It’s like I don’t care when I’m racing, even though I care so much. “So I started training again and though yeah let’s go and do this, And that’s the fastest time I’ve ever run in a prelim. I’ve been doing the 400m for such a short period that every race I am learning how to run it so each race is an experience in itself. “I was pretty relaxed, initially we didn’t really know what shape we were in.

I thought I was comfortable in second but I got caught on the line. People started to up the gears and I got pipped, but luckily I'm in the final. "I was meant to be on holidays right now.
