Like anything on the internet, the initial source of the trend is unclear but people began to discuss "Zombies in China" on TikTok and Twitter and incorrectly thought that it was some kind of eerie prediction. It appears the trend emerged as a result of a misinterpretation surrounding a 2021 article titled: "This is how a zombie apocalypse is most likely to start in China." The TikTok hashtag " Zombies in China" has received 4.3m views as people share their confusion (and sense of humour) about the topic.

A TikTok Hoax Has People Convinced There's Zombies in China (Distractify)

A hoax clip of a "corpse" coming to life in a morgue has TikTokers convinced that there's a zombie outbreak in China.

There's a fungus which ants are susceptible too that controls all of their movements to aid in the propagation of spreading fungus, which ultimately culminates in the ants' deaths. It soon becomes evident that the body beneath the cloth is moving and what appears to be a naked man groggily gets up from off of the table. The video that started it all shows infrared security camera footage of a morgue. Or maybe it's because the pressures of functioning in society as it currently stands is too great of a burden to bear. Maybe it's because they hoped they would have the chance to live a lawless existence and mow down a bunch of undead creatures threatening them and their loved ones. The clip in question seems like something straight out of a low-budget horror movie that uses a specific tone for maximum scare value.
