“This will typically last for two to five full moons, so that’s why there are multiple supermoons in a row. And as for its size, when the supermoon rises and sets on the horizon it looks bigger but this is down to what is called the “moon illusion”. According to the Natural History Museum’s Sara Russell, a professor of planetary sciences and leader of the Planetary Materials Group at the museum, a supermoon happens when the moon at its full is closest to the Earth.

That Breakthrough You've Been Waiting For? This Month's Full ... (Elite Daily)

Get ready for the breakthrough you've been waiting for amid the 2022 full moon in Aquarius (aka Super Sturgeon Moon) on August 11.

Be sure to check out the Aquarius-ruled house of your birth chart to fully understand where you’re being called to do an overhaul, as well as the Taurus-ruled house in your chart, since this is where the changes may be stemming from. With Uranus squaring this full moon, it’s bound to bring some sudden upheavals and disruptions to your sense of security, but in the long run, you may find that this is ultimately the best thing for you. The Sturgeon Moon nickname is associated with the giant fish of the same name, which are typically caught the most around this time of year. This full moon is the final supermoon of the year, which makes it particularly significant. The full moon in Aquarius will take place on Aug. 11, 2022 at 9:35 p.m. EST. Taking place at 19 degrees, this lunation will be conjunct Saturn retrograde at 22 degrees, and square Uranus at 18 degrees of Taurus. With so much going on in the fixed signs, the energy around this lunation is bound to feel stagnant, tense, and unmoving, but it’s the perfect time to think about how you can break through the barriers that have potentially been standing in your way. Since this lunation is square Uranus in Taurus, there’s a strong sense of disruption present now, but not in the areas where you’re used to being flexible.

Last supermoon of the year — the 'Sturgeon moon' rises Aug. 11 (Livescience.com)

The Sturgeon Moon, the fourth and final supermoon of 2022, rises on Aug. 11th.

The moon's orbit is about 5 degrees different from Earth's, so it is usually a little higher or lower than Earth's shadow, enabling the sun's rays to illuminate the side facing Earth. The Sturgeon Moon's name comes to us from the Algonquin tribes of what is now eastern North America, as large sturgeon fish were more easily caught in the Great Lakes at this time of year. The Sturgeon Moon will appear within 90% of perigee, making it a supermoon by most scientific definitions.

With the full moon in your third house of communication, your thirst for intellectual stimulation soars. Because the full moon falls in your eighth house of emotional bonds, it's time to speak up about what you need in terms of joint resources and intimacy. Falling in your sign and first house of self, it's crucial to face any difficult emotions that are coming up for you. This full moon will be in your sixth house of daily routine and wellness, which means you might feel like you're finally hitting a wall with hustling yourself into burnout oblivion. Squaring off against Uranus in your second house of income, you might be inspired to take a leap of faith and stand up for your values and self-worth. Squaring off against Uranus in your ninth house of adventure, embracing the unpredictable is especially inspiring. Balancing your needs with those of a significant other or dear friend bolsters maturity and your bond. Recognizing and sitting in the emotions that are fueling any frustration can preempt — or at least help you better cope with — the most headache-inducing moments. And with Saturn conjunct the moon, we're now also being required to show up and do the work to care for our relationships and challenging emotions. Although full moons are, by nature, a time when we can't help but be in our feelings, Aquarius would rather stick with the facts versus swim in the deep end of challenging emotions. And those are just a few of the themes you can expect to come up around this month's Aquarius-ruled lunar event. Full moons — which happen when the confident sun exactly opposes the intuitive moon — always present a monthly opportunity to wrap up projects you started six months or even two weeks prior.

Aquarius Full Moon August 2022: 3 tips to thriving in this transit (RUSSH)

There's an Aquarius Full Moon coming up this August 2022, and thankfully, it will be far less emotional than last month's transit.

On the one hand, the emotional Moon should add sweetness and light to Aquarius. On the other, the Waterbearer will flavour the Moon with a more community-service oriented energy. “To get aligned” is the same as “to dress accordingly.” Approach an elder at the office for a bit of mentoring: “Hey Madam, I’m having some questions about how best to approach this client to form a more human connection, do you have any advice?” You will find great benefit in their experience. Even though the Waterbearer tends to be more cerebral and impersonal, its emphasis on the “many” rather than the self-interested “one” will allow this Full Moon to shine more, so to speak. This is a perfect lunation to get some wisdom from those who have seen more and know more than us. What’s more, this Moon will be tightly conjunct the Taskmaster Planet. Expect Saturn’s influence to be more prominent this time around.

The last supermoon of the year rises Thursday: Watch it online for free (Space.com)

Watch the last supermoon of the year rise over Rome with the Virtual Telescope Project's free livestream, which starts on Aug. 12 at 1:30 a.m. ET.

Per Espanak's website (opens in new tab), 2023 will also see four consecutive full supermoons, as will 2024. As such, it can be tricky to make out particular features on the lunar surface in detail due to the lack of shadows. We recommend the Celestron Astro Fi 102 (opens in new tab) as the top pick in our best beginner's telescope guide. Even 2025 has three in a row. The August full moon, known as the Sturgeon Moon, will occur on Thursday (Aug. 11) at approximately 9:36 p.m. EDT and 6:36 p.m. PDT (Friday at 0136 GMT). It will occur when the moon is within 90% of its closest approach to Earth, making it a "supermoon" according to Fred Espanak (opens in new tab), an eclipse expert and retired NASA astrophysicist. Weather permitting, the Virtual Telescope Project will begin its full moon livestream Friday (Aug. 12) at 01:30 a.m. EDT (0530 GMT). You can watch the last supermoon of the year at the project's website (opens in new tab) or here at Space.com.

That's because when you're looking at the full Moon rising next to buildings, trees, houses and mountains your brain gets context and compares the size of the Moon to what’s around it. However, with the moon close to the horizon everything changes. You need to see it as it appears above the eastern horizon. Go look at a full Moon high in the sky and it will look pretty small. By definition a full Moon is visible all night long since it rises in the east as the Sun sets in the west, and vice versa the next morning. However, if you want to see a “supermoon” appear in the east just after dusk then you need to be even more precise.

Sturgeon Moon 2022: How to see the last supermoon of the year (BBC Science Focus Magazine)

The Sturgeon supermoon will be visible this week on Thursday 11 August 2022 and into the early hours of Friday morning, in the UK and around the world. If you' ...

When the Moon reaches perigee at the same time as a full Moon occurs in the lunar cycle, the Moon looms larger in the sky and we get a supermoon. However, the highest tides tend to follow the supermoon by a couple of days, and to the casual observer, the effect is subtle. Supermoons are categorised when the Moon is at 360,000km or less away from Earth in its orbital path, and we'll often have two or three full supermoons in a row. The Algonquin tribes of North America named August’s full Moon after the abundance of sturgeon in the rivers and lakes at this time of year. As the Moon rises higher in the sky, less of the blue light gets scattered and the Moon takes on a more familiar greyish-white hue. When the Moon is low on the horizon, you're looking through more of the atmosphere, and light has a longer distance to travel. The sturgeon is North America’s largest freshwater fish and have been reported to reach lengths of up to 6m (15-20 feet), and weighing nearly a tonne. If you’re unable to see August’s supermoon at its peak, you may have already glimpsed a full-looking Moon last night, and it will also appear full at the weekend. If you saw the Moon rise last night, you might have noticed a yellow hue while it was still low to the horizon. For the UK, the Summer Triangle is a familiar feature of the summer skies, with the blue-white star Vega in Lyra the Lyre the first to make its appearance as darkness descends. The supermoon will reach its peak at 2:36am on the morning of 12 August 2022. August welcomes the third, and last, supermoon of the year, but when exactly can you see the Sturgeon Moon? Which constellation will it appear in?

The sun applying to an opposition with Saturn in Aquarius, and the moon joining it, adds extra tension to the pressure to perform and live up to expectations. This full moon is very much about the balance between the self and the collective. Mercury makes a harmonious aspect (or applies to a trine) to the North Node, which can bode well for communication and the timing of discussions, and Venus separates from a trine to Neptune, adding a dash of glamor and romance! Each month, the sun and the moon stand opposite each other on the zodiac wheel, and this opposition is called the full moon. The full moon in Aquarius is like taking a break from a hot, sweaty dance party for a refreshing glass of ice water. This month’s full moon in Aquarius takes place on August 11, 2022, at 9:36 PM ET and is also known as the Sturgeon moon.

August full moon may be another big, bright supermoon. Here's ... (nj.com)

The "sturgeon moon" of August will be shining in the sky this week but will likely dampen the view of the Perseid meteor shower.

The August moon will officially reach its fullest phase at night — at 9:35 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time Thursday, Aug. 11, in the New York City region. The most common nickname of the August full moon is the “ sturgeon moon,” but some people call it the “ green corn moon” and the “grain moon,” according to the Farmers’ Almanac and the Old Farmer’s Almanac. As a result, the bright moonlight will cut down on the number of meteors that will be visible, experts say. Others say it will be just an ordinary full moon. Regardless of its classification, however, the August moon will officially be turning full Thursday night, Aug. 11, and will also be 100% full when it rises in the sky Friday night, Aug. 12. The full “sturgeon” moon of August 2022 will be glowing in the night sky this week, and it might be another big and bright supermoon, according to some astronomy experts.
