Jurgen Klopp is about to fully unleash a new devastating partnership ... (Liverpool Echo)

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez played in the Premier League together for the first time during Saturday's draw with Fulham.

Yet despite Salah profiting from taking up a more central position this time around as Alexander-Arnold whipped a wonderful ball into the box, it was his presence alone that pulled defenders Tim Ream and Tosin Adarabioyo out of position. The Egyptian and the 19-year-old England youth international dragged three players out wide as they searched for a later winner at Craven Cottage. And with each member of the Reds' former trio turning 30 years old last campaign, Klopp was tasked with bringing in a younger attacking option who could act as a long-term replacement for Firmino - who has less than a year left on his current Anfield deal and is yet to agree on fresh terms with the club. In the image below, Salah can be seen just moments before teeing up James Milner to fire a cross into the Fulham penalty area, which eventually resulted in Diaz prodding just wide. Introduced with Liverpool trailing 1-0 to Marco Silva's side after 50 minutes in West London, Nunez wasted no time in making a gigantic impact on his Premier League debut. It was a fine finish that opened Liverpool and Nunez's account for the new season, but it was his link-up play with Mohamed Salah which offered great detail as to how the pair could strike up a wonderful relationship during their time as teammates.

Of course, in some games he will score like this afternoon and in others he will not. The Cottagers boss said: “Mitro is the top scorer of his national team and national teams do not play just against Championship clubs. It’s up to us to deliver and get the best from him.

New Liverpool approach could evolve Jürgen Klopp midfield and ... (Liverpool.com)

With Liverpool starting the Premier League campaign with a frustrating tie in West London, Jürgen Klopp could now evolve by considering a new midfield ...

With Fábio Carvalho able to shine from midfield areas with the added threat of goals from outside the box, the most extreme implementation of this system would be for Klopp to deploy Carvalho and Elliott as the midfield two together. Of course, in games where Liverpool come up against the likes of Manchester City, some players become more vital than others, with the focus on being able to disrupt play defensively as much as sustaining attacks and creating chances. Even Thiago, maestro supreme, has more of a defensive side to his game than some of the alternative options.

A dry pitch is no excuse for a sub-par Liverpool performance according to Graeme Souness, after the Reds started their Premier League season with a draw ...

"I looked at the first half and for the first 15 minutes, the writing was on the wall for Liverpool. You have to say Fulham were fabulous, really aggressive, Liverpool didn’t get a second on the ball but if you’re a big team you have to expect that. But if the result was a surprise to most people, Souness claimed that it showed that pre-season affects individual players differently. After the match, Klopp tried to explain his team's performance.

Jurgen Klopp must correct his side's major problem if Liverpool are ... (Buzz.ie)

What should worry Liverpool fans is how Trent Alexander-Arnold is still as poor a defender as he was when he first came into the team.

He is a right-back. Klopp needs to look in the mirror too. Again and again, he’s caught out because he just isn’t where he should be. They weren’t any of these things against Fulham. Did they take their opponents for granted, figuring they’d blow away a newly promoted side? The last time I checked, a right-back is a defender — and Alexander-Arnold is a very poor defender. Liverpool’s abject display was unacceptable. In truth, he doesn’t have any at all. Too many have been seduced by the hype. That a kid and a veteran had to do so much should make some of the others look in the mirror. Milner is one of the great pros, and still has plenty to offer. It is the most prestigious individual award in the game, and is the result of a ballot of a worldwide jury. It’s a question that Jurgen Klopp has to ponder and address, and good luck to him.

Fulham take cheeky dig at Jurgen Klopp after his latest Liverpool ... (Football365.com)

Football365 - Klopp said he wasn't happy with the pitch after Liverpool's draw, and the Fulham Twitter admin's reaction probably hasn't improved his mood.

We have to trust in ourselves, we have to trust to stick with the plan as well and we showed fantastic organisation from the start until the end of the match. “We did the opposite of what we wanted to do. “The attitude was not right in the beginning and then we wanted to fight back but it wasn’t easy any more.

“All the subs made a big impact when they came on, so that was a big plus. Skipper Jordan Henderson, who almost burgled a win in stoppage time with a fine effort against the bar, admitted: “We knew it would be tough before the game, [against] a newly promoted side, so there’s no excuses from us. Boss Marco Silva is the kind of bloke who probably looks in the bathroom mirror and likes what he sees, but he is a talented coach and Fulham unsettled Klopp's strolling pilgrims like a punk rock band disrupting choir practice. But Liverpool looked stale and one-paced in midfield, where Thiago Alcantara's hamstring injury could force Liverpool into the market before the window closes. We played a really bad game.” But as Liverpool drifted into Aleksandar Mitrovic's firestorm of belligerence, a horrid truth stalked them along the towpath.

There are only two that stand out, in addition to Man City last year — the 07/08 and 08/09 United teams. But Ferguson has walked this tightrope twice before, and you would not bet against Klopp doing the same. But in the grand scheme of the Klopp era, it was something of an outlier. Well, it was actually fairly common in the 1990s. It’s been markedly less common since, with just four instances in the past 22 years. But five years on, Silva has inflicted more pain on the Reds, this time as the Fulham boss.

He said: "Of course, I would love for Bernardo to continue here, he is a special player in the dressing room for me, but I don't know what is going to happen. Bernardo has previously been linked with a move away but ended up staying put. Liverpool have drawn plenty of praise for their recruitment, but acting late in the market is always a risky strategy. Jurgen Klopp has seen his injury list grow which could see the Reds make some additions to go alongside Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay. We still have enough midfielders. We have eight midfielders.

As much as Jurgen Klopp has changed this club and has given a lot to the Liverpool fans, he is not safe from criticism. The reason why Manchester United and Chelsea could win title after title is because they didn’t keep or choose players on sentimentality. We may have a good number of midfielders, however, quantity over quality is the line that they should be saying. Not only does it allow other fans laugh at us, but it makes me think Klopp can’t look at himself, for him to fix up next time. Could we be seeing another Son/Kane in the Premier League. Yesterday saw the new no.9 and the Egyptian King assist each other for both of their goals.

LIVERPOOL dropped two points against Fulham on Saturday as they were held to a 2-2 draw.

I said already to my colleagues, the attitude was not right in the beginning.” Klopp was in no mood to celebrate the late leveller after the full-time whistle, however, as he took his players to task.
