F1: McLaren Set to Replace Daniel Ricciardo With Oscar Piastri, per ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Australian is still under a tight contract with the team until 2023, making a settlement necessary.

It was reported that Piastri had signed a pre-contract deal with McLaren, and per Autosport, the 21-year-old is initially on a reserve deal. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. This left an open seat at Alpine, and a day later, the team said Piastri would be a part of the ’23 F1 driver lineup alongside Esteban Ocon.

The Piastri coup is as big a moment for McLaren as it is embarrassing for Alpine, who look set to have lost a two-time world champion and a potential future world champion to rival teams in the space of 72 hours. Ricciardo was one of the grid's strongest performers in 2020 and there is a feeling in the Formula One paddock he needs a change of scenery to return to his old form. New Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer recently said he would have no objections with Ricciardo coming back to the team.

Here's What We Think The Future Holds For Daniel Ricciardo (WTF1)

From the outside, it looks like the McLaren atmosphere has become very toxic, and I think it’s best he tries to find happiness in a new team on the F1 grid. Well, his time at McLaren hasn’t given him the car or the environment to prove himself (again) as a top F1 talent, disqualifying him from a seat at another big team who probably won’t want to take a gamble on him. With Zak Brown trying everything short of using a crowbar to pry Ricciardo from his seat at McLaren, it’s pretty obvious that the Aussie’s time sitting next to Lando Norris is short-lived.

Alpine is one of the options available to him, despite the fact he left the Enstone outfit to join McLaren in the first place two years ago. But it is expected he will work to agree a settlement so he can find a new F1 seat and end his McLaren nightmare. But since McLaren made it clear they had interest in the Australian, his manager Mark Webber has been working on a deal.

DANIEL RICCIARDO looks set to leave McLaren at the end of the season as the F1 team makes plans for 2023.

However, that could depend on when they eventually agree a package for Ricciardo to depart. Ricciardo signed an £11m-a-year basic salary package which was due to run until the end of the 2023 season after replacing Carlos Sainz for the 2021 campaign. The Woking-based F1 team have made the ruthless decision to replace the eight-time race winner after a disappointing campaign.

Daniel Ricciardo is going to be replaced by Oscar Piastri for the 2023 season at McLaren, according to several reports.

For Ricciardo, meanwhile, it could be coming clear that he needs to find a new drive for 2023 if he is to remain on the F1 grid. Indeed, RacingNews365 has broken the story that a deal has been agreed for Piastri to replace Daniel Ricciardo at the Woking-based team, though the former Red Bull driver has a contract with them until the end of 2023. He’s been linked with the Alpine drive for a long time given he’s been in their driver programme for some time, but there is growing evidence to suggest he is going to be driving for McLaren in 2023.

All-Aussie F1 bombshell: Ricciardo 'told he'll be replaced' by Piastri at McLaren.

The matter came to a head after the Hungarian Grand Prix when Fernando Alonso abruptly ended negotiations with Alpine in favour of an Aston Martin contract for next season. Piastri is one of his generation’s foremost talents. Ricciardo’s future in the sport has been the subject of intense speculation this year due to his ongoing struggles with his machinery, leaving a significant disparity between him and teammate Lando Norris.

Revealed: Piastri to replace Ricciardo at McLaren in 2023 (RacingNews365)

After much drama in the past week over the future of Oscar Piastri, RacingNews365.com has learnt that the Australian will be racing for McLaren in 2023.

RacingNews365.com understands that Piastri has a contract with Alpine for 2022, but not for 2023. Piastri's move leaves Ricciardo's F1 future up in the air. Piastri was known to be admired by other teams, having previously been linked with a loan move to Williams, and RacingNews365.com has learned from sources in Australia that Piastri has signed a contract at McLaren that would see him partner Lando Norris and replace compatriot Riccardo at the Woking squad in 2023.

It is not inconceivable that Ricciardo will then move back to Alpine and take the place originally intended for Piastri. This is on the assumption that an agreement will be reached about the early departure of Ricciardo, who still has a contract until the end of 2023. McLaren CEO Zak Brown pointed out earlier in the season that the team has the option to terminate the driver's contract early, but will have to be prepared to pay a substantial ransom for doing so.

Reports: Oscar Piastri To Replace Daniel Ricciardo At McLaren In ... (Balls.ie)

In the wake of Sebastian Vettel's retirement announcement last Thursday, the German was surprisingly replaced at Aston Martin by fellow veteran Fernando Alonso.

Long-term fans of the sport will hope that it will not leave Daniel Ricciardo without a seat for 2023. The rumours of Oscar Piastri's arrival at McLaren appear to leave Daniel Ricciardo without an F1 seat for 2023. There may be a rather humorous option left for The Honey Badger. In the aftermath of the Piastri fallout, Alpine team principal Otmar Szafnauer said that there would be "no issue" in taking Ricciardo back to the team. He took two podiums before surprising the team with his departure to McLaren. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. The announcement of Alonso's move took his current team Alpine by surprise.

Oscar Piastri Will Reportedly Replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren (RoadandTrack.com)

Following a report that Ricciardo has been informed a move is imminent, McLaren seems to have its 2023 lineup.

If he were to join the team, Ricciardo would be joining the seat initially announced for Piastri after Fernando Alonso's surprise switch to Aston Martin earlier in the week. If this does happen, the most likely outcome seems to be a return to Alpine. Although Ricciardo left the team on short notice to join McLaren in the first place, he had a very strong run with what was then Renault after voluntarily leaving Red Bull Racing to take a shot at being a No. 1 driver there. When Palou was signed with some ambiguity about whether or not he could race in Formula 1, Daniel Ricciardo even went as far as to confirm that he was "committed to McLaren until the end of next year."

Autosport reports that Ricciardo has been informed by McLaren that it intends to replace him with compatriot Piastri for next year. It led to speculation that Piastri had an agreement to race elsewhere on the grid, with McLaren listed as the most likely spot. Earlier this week, Piastri denied that he would compete for the Alpine Formula 1 squad next year after the team stated it had promoted him to a full-time race seat.

Daniel Ricciardo out, Oscar Piastri in? What we know about ... (USA TODAY)

Talented rookie Oscar Piastri is engaged in a contract dispute that could leave veteran Daniel Ricciardo without a Formula one seat next season.

With no available seats in F1 for 2022, this left Piastri in no-man's land — with Alpine eventually signing him to a reserve contract for 2022 for the purpose of keeping Piastri affiliated with the team and getting the Australian some experience with the F1 car. Contract disputes in F1 are decided by the FIA Contract Recognition Board (CRB), a group of independent lawyers who settle disputes out of court. Yes, and it should sound especially familiar because McLaren is also at the center of the IndyCar situation. So, will Piastri make his F1 debut in 2023 and for which team? Those rumors seem to have had credence, as RACER reported Friday that McLaren was in exit talks with eight-time race winner Daniel Ricciardo and felt it had a valid contract with Piastri. Oscar Piastri, who is currently the reserve/test driver at Alpine F1 team, was announced Tuesday as one of the team's two primary drivers for the 2023 season.

'Done dirty': F1 world stunned as 'brutal' Ricciardo sacking looms (Fox Sports)

Daniel Ricciardo might sit well outside the top 10 in the F1 driver rankings but he remains one of the sport's most popular figures.

Webber said it was a “no-brainer” to help out. “Mark knows everybody,” he said. “It reflects very poorly on Brown and McLaren how they have treated Ricciardo over the past six months,” Saunders wrote. That team could even be Alpine if Piastri is able to leave. “Please Alpine don’t take him back!” Tiff Needell tweeted. So give someone else a chance!”

McLaren F1 slammed over Ricciardo treatment (TheJudge13)

Formula One is famed for its ruthless decisions. Daniel Ricciardo has been sacked by Zak Brown and McLaren mid way through his 2 year contract with the team ...

It appeared the team blamed him for the contact in Baku and that loss of confidence was something Ricciardo never recovered from. Surely it is a no brainer that Alpine recruit the scorned McLaren driver for next season. With hindsight it’s easy to see the mistakes F1 drivers make in their careers, but leaving Red Bull for Alpine in 2019 was Ricciardo’s biggest mistake by far. This was not fatal for Red bull’s Australian driver and he had the confidence of the team to continue. He also needs a car not so on the very edge where it breaks away from the driver without notice. 2017 saw Ricciardo win a race for Red Bull together with 7 podiums but the team was poor who were only third as a constructor. Now Red Bull’s lead driver for 4 seasons Daniel Ricciardo faced his toughest year for the Milan Keynes team. Following a collision with team mate Verstappen in round 4 of the championship which saw both cars eliminated,. Thank you, Damon – we need to do better.’ And I thought the guy we chose would do better and in fact it was a serious error of judgment. Damon Hill was sacked by Williams during the season he won the drivers’ world title for the team. Frank was ruthless in pursuit of the next great ‘thing’ but Hill was in good company. Frank Williams founder of the team year later later admitted, “I probably thought at the time, almost certainly did: ‘Great, great.

Australian F1 star Daniel Ricciardo is set to be replaced at McLaren by compatriot wonderkid Oscar Piastri, according to a variety of reports.

This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. Remarkably, he won both championships. He also travels with the team to each grand prix where he sits in on driver meetings and is often active in the team garage. Notably, Zhou Guanyu finished third in the standings but managed to secure a seat with Alfa Romeo as a driver for the current Formula 1 season. The F1 driver merry-go-round is in full swing with Alpine initially announcing Piastri would be in their team next year as a replacement for Fernando Alonso, who was moving to Aston Martin after the retirement of Sebastian Vettel. It's understood McLaren wants to ensure the 33-year-old gets to another F1 team before announcing the recruitment of Piastri for next year, who recently denied he was driving for Alpine in 2023.
