The Story Behind the Band Name: Metallica - American Songwriter (American Songwriter)

Metallica was first formed in the City of Angels, Los Angeles, in 1981 by vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. Today, guitarist Kirk ...

Today, the band is considered to be one of the “Big Four of Thrash Metal” with the others including Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeath. “I was happy to give the name for him,” he said. And he wanted—he asked me whether he should call the fanzine Metallica or Metal Mania. So I suggested that he call it Metal Mania,” Ulrich said in a 2018 interview. The drummer recalled that he suggested Metal Mania because he wanted Metallica for himself. At the time, Ulrich was chatting with his friend, Ron Quintana, who was in the beginning stages of creating a fanzine. In fact, some of us are still committed to the poetic doom and gloom of the genre.

Each listing is comprised of cumulative totals for each artist and compiled from all the thousands of box-office reports they have received since the early 1980s. The reason for this change is that monetary values have evolved and grown considerably throughout the four-decade Pollstar Era, and the value of a concert gross in 1982 is not an apples-to-apples comparison to the gross value for a performance this year. For the All-Time Boxoffice chart, Pollstar have changed their regular procedure and ranked the concert engagements by the number of sold tickets instead of by gross.

Plus, the backing band she was playing with were having a blast up there, and even the Metallica guys can be seen rocking out affirmatively from the crowd. The "Sk8er Boi" singer stepped out of her pop-punk comfort zone and took on a drawly, grungy, hard-rockin' highlight from 'Tallica's controversial 1997 album, Reload, and her performance is much better than you probably remember. Lavigne has a bit of a gravelly inflection on her voice as is, so it wasn't hard for her to fit snugly into James Hetfield's vocal range.

How legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones extended the career of Metallica frontman James Hetfield after giving him career advice which improved his voice.

They’re these little throat sweets, and he goes, ‘These are going to save your life and save your throat.’ This is in the middle of his fucking set, and he’s literally giving out sweets!” The former Gallows frontman continued: “He goes and gets this handful of stuff and then drops in my hand some plectrums and these little Vocalzone pills. I was side of stage watching him from his little guitar world – well, massive guitar world – and it was so fucking sick.

Hear Me Out: Metallica's James Hetfield is the worst metal lyricist of ... (Far Out Magazine)

James Hetfield of Metallica has written some of the worst lyrics of all time. We explain why and take a look at some of his very worst poetic efforts.

The song’s writing serves as one of the only instances in which Ulrich and Metallica’s producer, Bob Rock, felt that Hetfield could write better lyrics than he had initially offered. Funnily enough, the lyrics found in ‘Enter Sandman’ are not the original words that Hetfield wrote. While metal is not necessarily the most introspective of genres – with a large emphasis on the energy – Hetfield has inadvertently penned some of the worst lyrics of all time. Of course, Metallica’s tunes are not designed to be reincarnations of Joni Mitchell songs, but as far as I am aware, Hetfield believes himself to be some kind of metal-Shakespearian genius. Since the dawn of Metallica, there has been a constant tussle for the title of the band’s biggest arsehole. Yet there is one thing in particular with Metallica that, for me, just utterly lets them down, withdraws any modicum of respect and turns them into a complete and utter cringe-inducing nightmare.

BEHEMOTH's NERGAL Says He Has Become 'The Biggest ... (BLABBERMOUTH.NET)

In a new interview with Sweden's Rock Sverige, BEHEMOTH frontman Adam "Nergal" Darski was asked what METALLICA has meant to him throughout the years.

We are right in the centre of snake pit and the band is literally at hand! "They're not the youngest dudes around and I believe that they'll go on for at least another decade, but I always tell everyone to fucking go and watch METALLICA. Go and see METALLICA because all those classic bands like METALLICA, MAIDEN, GUNS N' ROSES… all those bands are going to be around for only a little bit longer. 'Kill 'Em All' is probably one of my favorites and 'Master Of Puppets' and the last one. I always followed METALLICA and I listened to them, but surprisingly, which is quite unexpected, I became the biggest METALLICA fan for the last 15 years. And every time I see METALLICA… most of the times I'm in the pit and that's amazing. I mean, I remember when I was a kid, I wasn't the biggest METALLICA fan.
