The BBC has apologised after its cameras picked up some choice words from England midfielder Jill Scott after she was brought down in the Euro 2022 final.

Scott has won 161 caps during the last 16 years and is one of the most experienced players in the England squad. Once the celebrations are over (which may be a while) it is hoped that generations of young girls will take up football and further grow the sport in England. Just before the end of the first half, 22-year-old Lohmann pulled down the veteran midfielder, sparking anger as she fell to the ground.

But (after) the FA investment, everyone who has been involved in women's football has been waiting for this moment. She is set to be joined in the studio by both Wright and Scott, who are two of the country's best-loved pundits. Hopefully the emotions will be very different tomorrow.

The Response To Jill Scott's Euros Swearing Shows We Still Have A ... (Grazia)

Critics are claiming she 'let England down' by telling a German player to 'f*ck off'. jill scott swearing ...

After 161 caps and 16 years on the England team ahead of the Euros final, to say she’s not a great role model for young girls at home after the Lohmann tussle is ridiculous and wrong. Give me Jill Scott cursing like a sailor and Chloe Kelly taking off her shirt in absolute ecstasy any day of the week.' But the gendered response to a woman’s outburst shouldn’t have a place in our football commentary either. Swearing, at the end of the day, isn’t allowed in football. The pearl-clutching response to Jill Scott’s loud and proud ‘fuck off’ (not dissimilar to behaviour seen from the likes of Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard throughout their careers) shows we’ve made little headway since then. Players slid on their tummies through piles of silver confetti at Wembley. Meanwhile, at home, those inspired rushed to Google ‘Girls Football Training’ to try the beautiful game out for themselves.
