This has the look of a match between two newcomers from the yards of Willie Mullins and his nephew Emmet Mullins. Bukhill, trained by Willie for his sister Sandra, is related to a couple of bumper winners and you suspect he will be sold after what connections hope will be an exciting debut. But there is good word too for This Songisforyou, a horse bought at the Keeneland Sales by Emmet and now owned by the Mee family, whose horses are always primed for this fixture. This horse has some decent placed form, his trainer and jockey are in good form, and the horse has been gelded since his most recent start which could bring about a bit of improvement. The fact that Farout won over hurdles here last year gives him a slight edge and he is selected to give rider Jody Townend a second success in this race. Aidan O’Brien’s Cairo has to be respected but he has an American dirt racing pedigree, so there has to be a doubt as to whether or not he will like the conditions. My short-list would be Echoes In Rain, Foveros, Winterwatch, Farout and Youmdor. Four of those five are trained by Willie Mullins. It might come down to a battle between Echoes In Rain and Farout, two high-class hurdlers who are unexposed in flat handicaps. With that in mind, let’s take a chance on Seeingisbelieving, who is drawn in stall 1. The rain that fell in the west over the weekend will suit hot favourite HMS Seahorse, who can get the festival off to a flyer for favourite backers. Watch out too for Delightfantastic who landed a little touch at Tipperary recently and probably has more to offer. Common Practice only won the Apprentice Derby at the Curragh by a neck but he was well-backed there and one suspects he is better than he showed there. Your Eyes Only and Common Practice stand out. Trained by Willie Mullins, Your Eyes Only was a big market drifter when she won a small maiden at Fairyhouse recently.
