MANCHESTER UNITED boss Erik ten Hag has received advice from fans over his summer transfer business.

Ten Hag has kept Maguire as club captain and he explained his decision earlier this month. “Of course, I have to get to know all the players and it takes time. However, Leon Bailey pulled one back for Villa after half-time before a Calum Chambers header deep into stoppage time levelled the game up in Perth. While Ten Hag carried out his post-match media duties, the Manchester Evening News claimed he had fans shouting from above to 'sell Maguire' and 'sign De Jong'. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag had his post-match interview after the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa disrupted by fans giving him transfer advice. There was a lot of movement, a lot of skills and they can finish.” You have to get out of the dressing-room, back in your plan and your focus and back to your performance. That is a weapon that is really hard to defend against. A season is not always going up, you also have setbacks and have to deal with it. “But I've seen a lot of progress in these two weeks.

Manchester United have been a busy club this summer but there are still two potential signings on the horizon.

Another Ajax ace has been identified with a move to Old Trafford in the form of Brazilian Antony. However, problems persist in the bid with De Jong holding out for Barcelona to repay the millions he is owed in deferred wages after taking a pay cut in the pandemic and is currently adamant he will remain at the Camp Nou. Frenkie De Jong has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer with the Red Devils reportedly agreeing a £63 million fee with Barcelona.

Man Utd: Sir Alex Ferguson's worst signings XI (GiveMeSport)

No manager will ever be able to replicate the legacy Sir Alex Ferguson forged at Manchester United. His legendary stint as manager saw him completely ...

Manucho would have had to have been a seriously hidden gem to arrive at United at that age from such a low level and hit the ground running. But he was never cut out to make it at Old Trafford, which became very clear in the few games he played. He endured a difficult 18 months, of which the highlight was probably a goal against Leeds, before leaving for Aston Villa. Obertan was well below the required level, and was gone by 2012. He started like a house on fire as a youngster, and was once tipped by Ferguson to be the club’s greatest ever player. Prunier was exposed and run ragged in a makeshift United lineup, conceding four against Spurs. He left swiftly after that. However, while there was the bad with the good, there is also a smaller bracket of Ferguson’s signings that were seriously ugly. When you consider how it’s gone since, he has to go down as a flop. A select group of players that just did not fit the mould. He turned top players into winners, and even made players who probably weren’t at the required level look effective. Naturally, though, not every signing Ferguson made in his near 27 years in charge at Old Trafford paid off. From style, to attitudes, to recruitment, Ferguson left his mark everywhere.

United swept play from right to left and Rashford played in the overlapping Shaw, who crossed for Sancho to volley home on the edge of the six-yard box in the 25th minute.

Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea admits last season was "embarrassing" for Man Utd with some matches "a mess, a disaster".

De Gea is excited for the new season under Erik ten Hag, he added: “With a new manager, we are in a good way. But we show already in those three (pre-season) games we are pressing high, we won the ball, we want to keep the ball, dictate, we want to lead the game. “We were not capable to win games and losing games 4-0 or 5-0, it was unacceptable.

Signing De Jong would have been a statement of intent at least, but with United struggling to get the deal over the line, Ten Hag may need to rely on the likes of Fred and McTominay to share the work. His range of passing can prove the difference between existing in a game and controlling it, and it was evident just how much United needed him after struggling to keep a hold on the game when leading Aston Villa. While he refused to outright name the Barcelona star, the “right player” is widely known to be De Jong, and it appeared United would get their man after agreeing a package with Barcelona worth £56million up front, with a further £20m in add-ons. And what's worse, Martinez is thought to have been signed for a central defensive role — rather than anchoring the midfield. “Football is a sport of mistakes and we have to decrease the mistakes,” he said. The former Ajax coach has made it clear he wants to sign a holding midfielder to complete his three-man midfield, a non-negotiable aspect of his football philosophy.

As a capable footballer and reasonably complete midfield, he needs to showcase his ability to play in a deeper role. Erik ten Hag is hoping to bring the best from Donny van de Beek this season at Manchester United but on the basis of his display against Aston Villa in Perth, the Dutch tactician may have his work cut out. It's still very early days under Ten Hag but it's an all too familiar problem that continues to follow Van de Beek at United. It was a timid display in Perth, full of nervousness but if there was even a man to drive him to new heights, it's Ten Hag, who knows Van de Beek like the back of his hand. Having a player of Van de Beek's technical quality alongside him is seemingly the perfect blend of quality on paper but the Dutchman looks lost in the middle of the park. Ultimately, Van de Beek is an attack-minded central midfielder, who likes to help build attacks in the middle of the field.

Man Utd 2-2 Aston Villa: Four things learned as Red Devils slump to ... (Daily Express)

MANCHESTER UNITED slumped to a second-half comeback in the final game of their pre-season tour against Aston Villa.

United's summer transfer business and Ten Hag's pre-season selections have strongly hinted at the starting line-up against Brighton & Hove Albion in next month's Premier League opener. Alex Telles is up for sale and has blatantly played the role of a placeholder under the Dutchman, featuring as a left-sided centre-back and, against Villa, slotting in as the holding midfielder. Bailey ran United ragged in the second half, smoking Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof with his pace. Many fans raised concerns about De Gea's suitability to Ten Hag's style upon the Dutchman's arrival. Erik ten Hag seems to have a clear plan for him, and it's so far bearing delicious fruit. Jadon Sancho opened the scoring on 25 minutes before Matty Cash doubled United's lead with an own goal on the brink of half-time.
