There are two things you have to do to try and stop a player like Damien Comer. "It will be interesting to see who the man marker is. "He got into a few altercations with Morgan and that was basically playing into Morgan's hands. McCluskey did a great job on him in the semi-final, James Morgan did a great job in the quarter-finals, and the talk is it will be Tom O'Sullivan. "One thing I used to hate down over the years - I used to look at a player that I knew I would be marking and their form in the lead-up to the game, and if I saw a player who had played poor in the previous game or two games before that, then I would be really be on my toes. The two big forwards that Kerry will be preparing for this Sunday are Shane Walsh and Damien Comer, both of whom have the ability to turn a game on its head on a moment's notice.

Also there is neighbour Donal O’Sullivan from Kilgarvan. Gavin has been left in no doubt as to the reason for such demand : “cost” — cost of petrol and driving but especially the cost of hotel accommodation in Dublin. Pickpockets are at work in Dublin, Mr Leane said, and there have been a number of instances recently, drawing the attention of unsuspecting Kerry fans to the danger. For Kerry people, Sam Maguire’s natural home is the Kingdom and they always say “losing Sam”, or “Sam was stolen” or “Sam is home”. All right, so we’re all about the Tribesmen and the Kingdom at present but you’ll forgive us a Breffni-centric snippet on the week that’s in it. We speak a bit more softly, the Donegal dialect might be a bit edgier, and the vocabulary would be quite dissimilar to what they use in Galway or Kerry.” Since 2010, Sam has wintered in the Kingdom just once.

They gave me the inspiration to do up the car, but it’s for all GAA fans that have passed away.” But a friend of mine over in Roscommon, Padraig Keenan, had an old Skoda Octavia car and gave it to me.

When there is a game like that, we always seem to come out on the wrong side of it. A semi-final is an hour of intensity and ferociousness in order to get over the line. The 42 year old added: "In 2013, we played Dublin in the All-Ireland semi final and it was a game for the ages. "In the run up to the final, you tried to stay away from the public because people would be asking you questions about the game. After that, you are just trying to outplay your opponent and it is 15 players against 15 players." There are lovely parts of it like measuring for your suits, going away for a weekend with the team and having a mini training camp.

What's on the playlist for that Harcourt Street party that Kerry have planned? “Supporters see All-Ireland finals as occasions with razzmatazz and atmosphere whereas players have to divorce themselves most of the time from that. Hey listen, everyone's tipping the Kingdom to make it 38. Again, it’s not for me to fix but we are going some way towards half sorting it and we’ll see where it goes in the future. What will Pat Spillane have to say for himself at the end of 30 years on the stage? And the oddsmakers are no different with Jack O'Connor's side 1/3 favourites; Galway are priced at 10/3.
