If you build it, people will come, goes the line from Field of Dreams. That soon will be put to the test. And for the next 10 days Eugene, Oregon will seek to conjure up an even greater feat: by making the rest of America follow suit.

Fan's Daily Viewing Guide & Preview of the World Athletics / Track ... (LetsRun.com)

A brief day-by-day breakdown and viewing guide of the World Championships starting with the first weekend.

The World Championships don’t waste any time in presenting you what is always one of the premier events, the men’s 100m final, and for US fans it will be on primetime NBC. Doesn’t get any better than this. American Galen Rupp, the greatest American long-distance runner of his generation, will get to compete in Eugene where he ran for the University of Oregon. Rai Benjamin of the USA and Alison Dos Santos of Brazil will be ready to fill any holes left if Warholm is not healthy as they became the 2nd and 3rd fastest ever at last year’s Olympics in getting silver and bronze, in a race that may have been the greatest race in track and field history. In the 10,000m, world record holder Joshua Cheptegei will square off against Selemon Barega, who beat him at the Olympics last year. For the first 4 days of Worlds, the action is broken up into “morning” (which may be in the afternoon on the East Coast) and evening sessions. The highlight of this session is the women’s 10,000m final. American medallists Courtney Frerichs and Emma Coburn get started in the steeplechase. Plus we’ll see if African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya, who beat American favorite Fred Kerley earlier this year, is able to advance after arriving Eugene less than 3 hours before the race starts after he only got a visa at the last minute. There is now a mixed-gender 4×400 relay where 2 men and 2 women run the legs for each country. We’ll have a brief overview of the key events and tell you where you can watch them. On TV, the action will be split between the USA, CNBC, and NBC networks with the weekend primetime action being on NBC. They start Friday, July 15 in Eugene, Oregon, and continue for the next nine days ending on Sunday, July 24.

No fairytale ending but magical memories as Allyson Felix says ... (The Guardian)

The American 'felt the love, felt the joy' as she took a world championship bronze in the final race of her career, the 4x4oom mixed relay.

Asked on Friday night what message she would tell her young self, Felix replied: “Every defeat, every failure, is an opportunity to get better. Just seeing the confidence that she had was amazing.” “But the work that Right to Play does is so much more important. Felix leaves her sport having hoarded a stupendous tally of 30 Olympic and world championship medals over the past 18 years, a tally that may never be beaten. “The last couple of years I have stepped outside of just the clock and the medals,” she said after the race. But greatness is not measured on one stopwatch but over many and few can match Felix’s longevity, her range of events or her voice on important issues. And what I hope to do from now on is to really support female and mum athletes and carry on the childcare initiative I have. She is loving her best life.” “And so I feel really proud tonight, and fulfilled.” “She is three. She was still beaming deep into the night when she spoke movingly about inspiring her three-year-old daughter, Camryn, who watched on. “She is getting ice cream,” Felix shot back, laughing.
