Limerick v Kilkenny: Everything you need to know (Irish Examiner)

I may have followed on a transistor radio from the Electric Picnic camp site – when all-Ireland final Sunday clashed with such events – but I know Brian Cody’s men showed no mercy. “Not only are we coming in as underdogs but we were not considered to have any chance of being in the All-Ireland final this year up to a few weeks ago. Somebody told me we were 12/1 after Cork beat us in the league semi-final so that wouldn’t suggest there were great expectations for us to get there. Have I got the capacity to deliver what I would expect from myself?'" Colm Lyons will be the man in the middle tomorrow afternoon. And experience helps there as well.”

Limerick v Kilkenny: Roads to the All-Ireland final (RTE.ie)

Kilkenny won the second of their famous four All-Ireland titles in a row in 2007 under Brian Cody when they beat Limerick in the final.

Please review their details and accept them to load the content. Three Leinster titles in a row mean this Kilkenny team is trending in the right direction. The sides were level at the break, 1-12 to 0-15. Their fourth in five years. Wexford needed a win in Nowlan Park to keep their championship campaign alive and they produced a stunning display to beat the hosts for the time ever in the championship in their backyard. This win put them on the brink of a place in another Leinster final but there was still the visit of Wexford to come. Kilkenny were slow out of the blocks and they trailed early in the game by 0-10 to 0-06. Limerick got the final two scores of the game to make it two from two in the championship. Seamus Flanagan for Limerick hit a crucial eight points from play and points from substitutes Conor Boylan and David Reidy helped Limerick over the line to win by three in a classic Munster final. Kyle Hayes got the only goal of the game in the 15 minute to give Limerick a two-point lead. Limerick won just their first and final league game of the season against Offaly in what was a disappointing start to the year. Kilkenny won the second of their famous four All-Ireland titles in a row in 2007 under Brian Cody when they beat Limerick in the final.

Limerick v Kilkenny head to head: A look at the classic rivalry ... (Irish Mirror)

Old foes Limerick and Kilkenny become reacquainted with one another when they clash off in the All Ireland senior hurling championship final a little later ...

Yet, they turned up on All Ireland semi-final day and turned in a superb performance defeating Limerick and leaving John Kiely shell-shocked in the process. Goals from Michael Fennelly, Colin Fennelly and two from current Galway boss Henry Shefflin saw The Cats surge into an unassailable league and just a few weeks later, Brian Cody added another All Ireland medal to his lengthy collection. Limerick just couldn't bridge that gap in the second half. Today, these roles are reversed, with the Cats aiming to deny Limerick winning a third all Ireland title in a row, a feat last achieved by Cody's Kilkenny in 2008. But Limerick responded like the true champions that they are. The most recent game on this list and perhaps the most surprising.

Limerick v Kilkenny: Three big match turning points (Irish Examiner)

Limerick were clearly after a strong start and pushed for goals where possible. Two minutes later, Aaron Gillane found himself bottled up but still in ...

We knew of course that Kilkenny wouldn't toss in the towel but it was simply too much to fight back from at that stage of the game. TJ Reid made a terrific fetch and played the ball across to Eoin Cody who showed the presence of mind to flick the ball on to Keoghan who struck to the net. The 1-1 that Kilkenny sniped between the 47th and 48th minutes brought them back to level terms for the first time since the second minute.
