Kilkenny's speciality is winning finals against the odds, says the Clare hurling great, who is tipping Brian Cody's Cats to stop Limerick's gallop.
Limerick are the hottest of favourites again, but the heavy hand of history can weigh heavily. Many of the players from that game will be on show tomorrow on both sides. But, back then, Cody had the greatest ammunition that any team in the modern era possessed. Only the greatest of teams can do this. Eoin Murphy is a brilliantly intuitive number one, with exceptional reflexes and outstanding skill. Guarding the space in front of Aaron Gillane is an absolute necessity for Kilkenny and Paddy Deegan is ideally suited to this role. Murphy is fiercely competitive and aggressive. The defences and midfield are well matched but only two Kilkenny forwards, TJ Reid and Eoin Cody, would be in contention to get on the Limerick side. Kilkenny, in contrast, have stuttered their way to the final, losing twice in Leinster and losing for the first time in Nowlan Park to Wexford. But against Dublin, Galway in the Leinster final and the first half against Clare, we saw a dangerous Kilkenny. In three of their six games, Limerick stared defeat in the face but found a way to survive. But Liam told me that when he was in secondary school, he played with a Combined Colleges team in Wexford and they came up against St Kieran’s of Kilkenny in the Leinster final and beat them easily.
Fans believe that the GAA having to put tickets on general sale for Sunday's hurling final is an indictment of the cost of living crisis here.
This is not to mention the price of food and drink at GAA headquarters being far above what you'd typically pay elsewhere. The cost of fuel is increasing at an evermore alarming rate while accommodation in Dublin has never been pricier. While we're so used to All-Ireland tickets being labelled 'gold dust' in the run-up, it appears that doesn't apply to this weekend's showdown between champions Limerick and Kilkenny.

Kilkenny and Limerick have named their teams for Sunday’s All-Ireland Hurling Final at Croke Park.
It is the All-Ireland hurling final that the sport needed and comes along just at the right time.
They will attempt to suffocate Limerick in the middle of the park and pressurise their forwards like never before. They could rely on Clare with their long high balls into the Kilkenny full-back line to keep Tony Kelly and Shane O’Donnell out of the game. Can the same be said of Kilkenny? The Black and Amber lost to Galway in Salthill and Wexford in Nowlan Park. That has to mean something. They stand on the edge of a third All-Ireland championship win in just 22 months which in peace-time is remarkable, but despite the close calls with Clare and even with Galway in the semi-final they have rarely looked as if they don’t have the answers. A year later they had a bad day against the Black and Amber when Matt Ruth played for Limerick against his native county. Yet, for Limerick they must be the ideal opposition, the one team that has remained a fly in the ointment, a blot on an otherwise pristine copybook.

Local News Local News Local News Limerick should complete what would be a magnificent feat, and win three in a row. The only real negative of the two week build up is if you have one or two niggles or injury worries from the last day, you do not have as much time to get them right. Firstly, I'm a big believer in the split season and I think its merits are fantastic.
Kilkenny and Limerick have both gone with the same starting 15 from their semi-final victories for tomorrow's All-Ireland Hurling Final in Croke Park.
