He was the kid who took a ball to school every day, he was the No 9 who would score 10 goals a game for Cefn United, the team he joined at age six. When Williams was spotted at a tournament in Gresford near Wrexham, that was it; Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United all wanted to sign him. It is this laid-back and humble nature that are the qualities his family most appreciate. He would draw targets in chalk on the back garden wall of their Cefn Mawr home in north Wales where he grew up and would be out there practising for hours. But Williams wanted to be ready and included in the squad for the World Cup play-offs. When Williams, one of five siblings, grew older he was allowed to play on the field in front of the house but would be called in once it was getting dark. His experience of playing in the Premier League and Champions League with Liverpool will also be an added bonus. As the years passed, he was soon old enough to play in the AstroTurf cage. And it is his lifelong love of the game that has led him here. Joining Fulham gave Williams fresh impetus and the opportunity to kick on and show his talent on a weekly basis. The standouts are his volume of ball carries and dribbles which are rated 93 out of 99. Neco Williams has joined Nottingham Forest from Liverpool for a fee that could rise to £17 million in add-ons.
