A rescue helicopter and the Irish Coast Guard team were deployed to help the boy, who became distressed while swimming at sea on Burrow Beach, Sutton.

"He was taken to Beaumont Hospital and then later to CHI at Temple Street in Dublin, where he later passed away from his injuries." The boy was later taken to Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street where he passed away. He was pulled from the water and taken to Beaumont Hospital in a serious condition.

In a statement, Fingal County Council extended its sympathy to the family and friends of the teenage boy who died “despite the efforts of lifeguards, Coast Guard and other emergency services”.
