Open Championship odds 2022: McIlroy is looking to end a nearly eight-year major drought, while Schauffele is looking for his first major victory.

Scottie Scheffler (14-1), Jon Rahm (16-1), Jordan Spieth (16-1), Justin Thomas (16-1) and Matthew Fitzpatrick (18-1) round out the top of the odds board. As for Schauffele, who is 12-1 on the DraftKings Sportsbook, he's still in search of his first major title. Patrick Cantlay, who, like Schauffele, has yet to win a major championship, is 20-1.

2022 British Open Bettors' Roundtable: Experts Pick Favorites ... (Sports Illustrated)

Are any LIV golfers major-championship read? Is Tiger Woods ready to contend? And who could surprise? Our panel of golf writers and gambling experts convene ...

Harig: Jon Rahm. The Spaniard who won the U.S. Open last year and contended at Royal St. George’s has all the shots and has shown he can play this style of golf. Not that he needs further motivation, but he missed playing here in 2015, at the peak of his powers, due to an ankle injury, so perhaps he’s relishing this chance to get a shot at wining the Open Championship on perhaps the most famous course in the world. He was either the favorite or one of the favorites, according to the odds, at each of the previous three majors this season, but he failed to crack the top-10 at any of them. Harig: Collin Morikawa (25-1). The defending champion is coming off a poor performance at the Scottish Open. Beware, he made the cut and finished near the bottom last year and won the following week. I expected him to play well at the Genesis Scottish Open (but he missed the cut) after a solid finish in the Irish Open (13th) the previous week. Here's one more: Gary Woodland (100-1) finished 10th at the U.S. Open and was right in the mix at the Scottish before fading Sunday. He's streaky, but it's possible he's about to click at the right time. But two guys caught my eye: Max Homa is getting better ever week, acclimating to majors and had a great tournament at the links-but-not-St.-Andrews-links at the Scottish Open. He's 80-1, and that's a great price. He may not win (fine, he probably won't win) but he has no missed cuts and a couple of top 10s in the Open, so he could be a sneaky play in daily fantasy games. He's from Ireland so if he's not good in the rain and wind — always possible in Scotland — then the moon is made of ranch dressing. Childs: I'd love to see a Cinderella story for Tiger. His game should be sharper than his late fade in the U.S. Open and I expect him to be playing on the weekend. I put him 70th in my rankings — 70 and ties make the cut — and frankly it was more of a ceremonial position than realistic. I expect a few flashes of brilliance mixed in with a few flashes of fatigue and a lack of cooperation from his body.

British Open DFS picks 2022: Why I'm playing Tiger Woods (with ... (GolfDigest.com)

The Open Championship returns to the home of golf: St. Andrews. The Old Course will play host for the 30th time in history and the first time since 2015.

Listen to Golf Digest's weekly betting podcast, "Be Right," where we interview the industry's leading experts (and sometimes tour pros) to help you make your bets and pick your fantasy lineups. Rick Gehman, founder of RickRunGood.com and the RickRunGood YouTube Channel, is one of the industry’s leading experts on golf DFS and gambling. He finished runner-up at the John Deere Classic and gained 7.42 strokes in the ball-striking categories. Already twice a winner at St. Andrews, this course will require supreme strategy and creativity, which is perfect for Woods. Playing a full 18-hole practice round earlier in the week is encouraging. Oosthuizen hoisted the Claret Jug in 2010 at St. Andrews and backed it up with a runner-up finish when we returned to the Old Course in 2015. His missed cut last week was his first missed cut since the PGA Championship. He earned a top 10 at the Wells Fargo Championship, which was very difficult. It’s been an injury-filled season for English, who might be finally getting healthy. Homa is entering the upper echelon of talent on the PGA Tour. His advanced metrics are incredibly positive, ranking sixth on tour in strokes gained/total over the past 24 rounds, per the RickRunGood.com golf database. $11,100 FanDuel) That increases the variability and outcomes for every player in the field. That creates massive putting surfaces where golfers will have some of the longest putts of their lives. I could spend hours typing about the history of this course, but I’ll focus on how it sets up for the modern player.

Open Championship 2022: Tiger Woods is emptying the tank for St ... (GolfDigest.com)

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — The greatest player of his generation is prepping for this tournament like a wide-eyed rookie soaking in his first taste of Open ...

He has earned the right to play whenever he wants and wherever he wants. Arnold Palmer played his last Open at St. Andrews. So did Tom Watson. Jack Nicklaus of Ohio chose to play his last-ever major championship near the Scottish sea. At heart, he is an old-school player, a feel-first golfer who relishes the opportunity to rip stingers under the wind and hold draws into it. He did play that PGA but he wasn’t able to finish it—these leg problems, they’re not going away—and then he faced a choice: push to play the U.S. Open in June, or rest for St. Andrews in July. For Tiger, a no-brainer. But this, of course, is anything but any Open Championship. Woods adores the Old Course; he’s called it his favorite in the world, and that includes Augusta National. He completed the career Grand Slam here as a 24-year-old with an eight-shot victory in 2000, and he cruised wire-to-wire when the Open returned five years later. Woods’ reverence for St. Andrews, and his clear prioritizing of this week, has led to some online speculation that he could “retire” after this week. “I had some issues with my leg, and it would’ve put this tournament in jeopardy and there’s no reason to do that,” Woods said at last week’s J.P. McManus Pro-Am. “This is a pretty historic Open that we’re going to be playing. The course functioned as a “bar was open to the public,” as is always the case on Sundays, and the public wanted to watch a 15-time major winner do his thing at the most special venue. I’m lucky enough to be part of the past champions that have won there and want to play there again. Given his history at St. Andrews, and his deep stubbornness, that's enough for him to believe he can win. But that’d be the case for any Open Championship, now that it bats cleanup in this new breakneck cadence. Tiger Woods touched down in Scotland on Saturday, promptly cruised over to St. Andrews and, alongside bestie Justin Thomas, chipped and putted his way around the Old Course. He finished in the shadows of the R&A’s headquarters not long before midnight and was back at it not 10 hours later, the centerpiece of a surreal scene when he played a full 18 holes in front of … well, anyone.

Tee times for rounds 1 and 2 will be announced shortly and will be reproduced at the bottom of this post. It has been a thrilling men’s major season so far this year, with more memorable moments and controversy than anyone could ask for.

Tiger Woods back for another Open Championship dance, but is it ... (Eurosport.co.uk)

Tiger Woods is back on familiar and happy turf for the 150th Open Championship, but it would be a brave person to predict what we will see from him.

He appeared done, the body shot and his air of invincibility broken, but he came back to win again. In beating Rocco Mediate in an 18-hole play-off, Woods showed iron will and he produced it again to win the Masters in 2019. St Andrews and a smattering of other Links courses aside, Augusta is the one course Woods can still contend at on one leg. Two months on and judged on his practice round on Sunday, there is no improvement in his leg. He’s likely still lethal at buggy golf, where walking is not a concern, and the competitive hunger means in the blink of an eye he’d take his son’s pocket money off him in an 18-hole match play contest. At 46, the body is creaking and he walks like a man double his age.
