Peter Canavan: Time for this Kerry team to stand up and be counted ... (Sky Sports)

Jack O'Connor said after Kerry's win over Mayo that his players "have been yearning to get a cut" at Dublin since 2019.

The defences will need to be organised, because both of them are unmarkable if they get one-on-one and quality ball. I would say the same about Clifford. Given the players in this Kerry panel, we have been waiting for them to deliver. And they're good enough to do it. The quality of ball going in is going to be key. An All-Ireland semi-final speaks for itself.

Ciarán Whelan identifies key match ups in store between Dublin and ... (Pundit Arena)

Ciarán Whelan has identified the key match ups Dublin need to get right in defence if they hope to beat Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-final.

Paudie Clifford was very influential, so who goes on [Paul] Geaney then? “It is a tough one for Dublin. Dublin have to curtail their influence, if Kerry bring their A game in the forwards, Dublin could struggle defensively.” Former Dublin footballer Ciarán Whelan was speaking on RTE’s GAA podcast and ran through the key match ups that the Dubs will need to get right on Sunday.

In the last semi-final between Dublin and Kerry in 2016, 82,000 packed into Croke Park for a classic match. Their two most recent meetings in the 2019 All- ...

The limit for the All-Ireland finals was 40,000. There has never been a such a low-key build-up to one of the showcase fixtures in Irish sport. On the other hand, a one-day return journey from Kerry to Dublin by car is a tough and taxing ordeal. The core Dublin fanbase remains as loyal as ever. In 2020 the All-Ireland series was played in winter behind closed doors. Still, the next 48 hours will be a nervy time for the GAA.

It was driven out of an insatiable desire to win the ball back. Jim McGuiness and Rory Gallagher put a lot more structure on it in Donegal, but that focus on the collective work was the same. He didn’t have a lot to work with in Down, but he did it with St Mary’s and won a Sigerson. The way Dublin will have to play to stop that Kerry team will take a lot away from the way Dublin need to play to win the game. A lot of us were young and able to get up and down the pitch. I think Kerry overall have more attacking weapons and the squad to go and win the game. Subconsciously, a lot of that style was down to the way we trained as a team. At the same time, the more I have watched Kerry, the more I have realised there are still vulnerabilities, but man for man I think they have more there than Dublin. If they do have someone, I don’t think they have the others to stop Seán O’Shea, Paul Geaney and Paudie Clifford. They were rusty in the All-Ireland quarter-final but I saw enough of them in the League and with that Mayo game under their belt, the collective work rate and energy they have will make them formidable. Kildare were the only team of any merit and they got it totally wrong tactically and were caught in the headlights. They have a few players back and are a little bit sharper but haven’t been tested any more than they were in the League.

David Clifford wins fitness race as Kerry name team for Dublin clash (Irish Examiner)

There were concerns over the fitness of key forward David Clifford but he has been passed fit to play in Sunday's eagerly awaited encounter.

There were concerns over the fitness of key forward David Clifford but he has been passed fit to play. Barry had been a permanent fixture in the midfield department prior to the county’s last-eight clash and while the Na Gaeil man is understood to be back at full fitness, David Moran holds onto the number eight shirt he wore for the first time this season two weeks ago. Clifford appeared to be struggling for large parts of the eight-point win over Mayo at the quarter-final juncture after seeming to roll an ankle early in the game.
