The duo scored three of Celtic's seven goals in a pre-season win over Austrian third-tier outfit Wiener Viktoria.
A minute later, Johnston was again the provider as he laid the ball on for James Forrest to steer home. Kenny was denied a hat-trick, his header coming back off the post only for Chris Jullien to convert on the rebound. Reo Hatate and Johnston himself put Celtic three goals to the good before the 20-minute mark before Kenny bagged the Hoops’ fourth with a cool finish from eight yards out.
Celtic loanee Conor Hazard will begin a familiar Champions League qualifying journey this evening with HJK Helsinki.
Hazard hasn’t featured for Celtic during these early-round qualifiers. Of course, there is a long way to go before they can think about Champions League football, and the last time Helsinki were involved in the group stages was back in 1998/99. Celtic loanee Conor Hazard will begin a familiar Champions League qualifying journey this evening with HJK Helsinki.
In the three transfer windows Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has had since taking charge at Parkhead, he has shown how effective he can be.
However, if reports are to be believed, Postecoglou has made it clear he has waited long enough and needs a decision from the Brazilian. So, we will have to wait and see what the next move is for all parties within the next few days. It is also evident that we have also improved in how we aim for new signings and deciding when the best time to move on to another target is.
The Japanese international arrived at Parkhead back in January along with Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, and Matt O'Riley. However, as the latter trio produced big ...
Given the standard of opposition we haven’t found out whether he can fill it today. Yes, the lack of quality that Wiener Viktoria offered played a big role in how straightforward this fixture was. Even as we closed in on full-time, Yosuke was still battling away and closing down the opposition. It was even more promising from a Celtic perspective that there were no signs of weariness either. You can understand his willingness to impress too. The longest appearance we got from Yosuke was his 63-minute display against Alloa.
Former Celtic goalkeeper Ryan Mullen is currently on trial with Dunfermline Athletic in League One ahead of the new season.
Mullen clearly wasn’t going to be given the opportunities his career needs. At 21 years of age, the time is right to be branching out. The young shot-stopper is looking for his first taste of senior football on a regular basis.
The Scottish Premiership champions have a busy summer schedule of friendlies both at home and abroad and kick off against the Austrian minnows.
Bernabei shows good aggression to win the ball back in the left back area and move up the pitch. Will Ange Postecoglou give a few a run-out in Austria tonight? Johnston delivered and Kenny rose to meet the cross with a header. Celtic are 1/1500 with SkyBet to win the match. The Austrian minnows are 100/1. Mikey Johnston brusts onto Lawal's ball and sprints into the box. The Hoops three goals to thr good after just 17 minutes. Has a team ever been this short to win a game? The ball is returned to him and he strokes the ball calmly into the bottom corner and Celtic are crusing here in Austria. He throws the ball to Hatate and the Japanese keeps the ball moving before continuing his run into the box. This could be a chance for Postecoglou to give some of his younger players a run out and stake a claim to be a part of the first team squad next season. And there was time for James Forrest to widen the scoreline with a sixth on the stroke of half-time.

Celtic play their first pre-season friendly this evening against Austrian outfit Wiener Viktoria. The Hoops are basing themselves around Vienna as they get ...
“Pre-season is a really vital time of the season. It lets the lads live with each other for 10-11 days and start to bond and be together. It’s a huge club and the boys are buzzing to be part of it.
EVEN the greatest journeys start with a single modest step, and this was about as modest a setting as you could imagine for Celtic's opening…
He looked comfortable on the ball too, dropping into the central positions where Postecoglou likes his full-backs to operate and linking well early on with Mikey Johnston ahead of him. Surprisingly, it took until three minutes before half-time before Celtic got their fifth, Kenny heading Johnston’s cross off the post and Chris Jullien following in to head into the empty net. As it turned out, the opposition were pretty modest too.
Ange Postecoglou is looking to strengthen his side now ahead of their imminent return to Champions League group stage football.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is looking to strengthen his side now ahead of their imminent return to Champions League group stage football for the first time in five years. But if Souza is feeling the pressure to make a decision on his future then his latest update on social media certainly doesn't appear to show it. Celtic have an advantage in the race for Souza due to their blooming working relationship with the City Group. That is only set to strengthen after of the arrival of highly-rated Mark Lawwell as the Parkhead's new recruitment chief.
Real Betis, Schalke, Ajax, Fenerbahce and Celtic were all in the mix. But PSV Eindhoven emerged as the favourites to land the 23-year-old. The Eredivisie outfit ...
That could help sway any decision in Celtic’s favour if Souza is indeed yet to make a final call. Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink tweeted: “Informed about the story about Vinicius Souza and PSV. When asked, agents of the Brazilian both deny (in Spanish and English) a Scottish story that he will play football at PSV. The decision about his future is near and probably already this week.” The Lommell star has been in high demand this summer with a host of clubs across Europe keen to land him.
Celtic took on Austrian club SC Wiener Viktoria today in their first pre-season match of the summer, only a few days after arriving in the country for their ...
The second half was never going to be a fluid as the first half with so many changes at the break and as predicted it was a scrappy affair. It took a while for both team to get going and it was clear that Celtic weren’t going to be quite as dominant this half as they were in the first. A few players I would like to pick out for praise would be our two first half wingers, Mikey Johnston and James Forrest. Both players claimed a goal and an assist and looked dangerous throughout. That all changed on the 76th minute when one of the brightest youngsters to be introduced, Rocco Vata, scoring a lovely goal on the breakaway. With only 17 minutes on the clock Celtic made it three, Mikey Johnston adding a goal to his earlier assist as the winger started his pre-season of in style. A Great workout for the Bhoys in our opening pre-season! He will find it hard to break into the first team but just being around it will surely help him progress. It was nearly another 20 minutes until Celtic would get their next, with the goal coming on the 43rd minute. As this game started it was quite obvious that Celtic were on a different level to their lower league opponents. It only took another 3 minutes for Celtic to claim their second when Reo Hatate scored a nice goal after some excellent link up play with James Forrest. Celtic took on Austrian club SC Wiener Viktoria today in their first pre-season match of the summer, only a few days after arriving in the country for their sunshine training camp. Celtic started with a strong enough looking line up that included a few first team regulars such as Joe Hart, Reo Hatate and James Forrest.
Celtic striker Johnny Kenny has opened up on his early experiences of pre-season after grabbing a double against Wiener Viktoria this evening.
Good to get out on the pitch with the first team for the first time and to obviously top it off with two goals and a 7-0 win. The second one Berna whips it in, and I got a bit lucky but had to be alive to finish it first time. You’re learning off Kyogo, Giako and Albi. So, you can’t go far wrong.”
It was a piece of cake for Celtic in Vienna and that was foreshadowed by an unconventional gift for Ange.
The Celtic boss claimed: “He has come in and it has been a massive change for him. Celtic netted the fourth minutes before the interval when Kenny headed a Johnston cross off the post and Julien reached first to net the rebound. Johnston turned creator for the four when a defender failed to clear his cross and Kenny netted his second. Joe Hart took the captain’s armband, new signing Bernabei was given his first run out in the Hoops, along with the likes of James McCarthy, Hatate, Forrest and Jullien, who saw a move to German side Schalke collapse last week. Postecoglou left out all the players who had been away on international duty And that meant multi-million pounds worth of talent helped to swell the Celtic contingent in the small main stand at the SV Bad Erlach sports arena. Postecoglou, who was delighted with what was served up before and during the game, said: “I’m starving, I haven’t had a chance to eat it (the cake) yet.
The Scottish champions have already added Benjamin Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei to last season's squad, as well as making Daizen Maeda, Jota and Camero ...
“But are they a good fit for our football club? “I wouldn’t expect too many but there are still one or two areas I’m looking to strengthen knowing what’s ahead for us.” “I still think there are one, two areas where we need some more robustness in terms of the squad, just some quality in depth.
Football Insider has been told by Alan Hutton that once Celtic sign a replacement for Scott Brown they will have completed their transfer business.
For me, I think that’s an area they could look at. Possibly the only area that I can see at this moment in time is that kind of player to take over from Scott Brown. “I know everybody, towards the back-end, was saying that he was passing quite safe.
Vinicius Souza is a player whose signature Celtic have appeared to have been chasing for a while now. There is a lot of interest in the Brazilian midfielder ...
Thus, the club do need to bring in another player in the position and someone like Souza would be a great addition. It is hard to see him being signed on a permanent basis though as he is rated very highly and City Football Group are not believed to be keen on letting him go either. Vinicius Souza is a player whose signature Celtic have appeared to have been chasing for a while now.
Riverstown native Johnny Kenny scored twice for Celtic's first team in a 7-0 win over Austrian side SC Wiener Viktoria on Wednesday evening as part of ...
Speaking exclusively to Celtic TV after the game, Kenny said: “It’s been good to be out on the pitch with the first team for the first time and top it off with two goals and a 7-0 win. “For the second one, Alexandro Bernabei whipped it in and I got a bit lucky but I had to be alive to finish it first time.” The 18-year-old started the game, and put Celtic ahead after 10 minutes with his first goal, adding his second on 25 minutes to make it 4-0 to Celtic.
The young Irish starlet was given a first team runout in Austria and showed his potential with a couple of goals.
“The gaffer wants us to press high and get after teams in the top end of the pitch. For the first goal, Mikey Johnston did well, I’ve played with him before so he knew he would find me at the back post and thankfully I’ve been able to finish it off. I’ve been learning off of Kyogo Furuhashi, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Albian Ajeti, you can’t go far wrong with that!
One of the great things about a game like yesterday is that Celtic supporters were able to hear all of the communication from the coaching staff towards the ...
Not every Celtic player managed to hold on to the ball for as little as two touches. Chris Jullien was always trying to keep his touches on the ball to a minimum. Clearly designed to keep the ball moving and ensure the tempo remained high.
Ireland underage pair Johnny Kenny and Rocco Vata shone as Celtic ran out easy 7-0 winners in their opening pre-season game of the season..
Dubliner Bosun Lawal also featured for the Celts in their big 7-0 win. “The first goal Mikey Johnston did well and I knew, having played with him, before that he would find me at the back post. “It’s been good to be out on the pitch with the first team for the first time..”
