Garry's 'Takeover Part Two' lacking love of the Irish (RTE.ie)

The event projected McGregor around the world as an icon and was the foundation for his scintillating run to two UFC titles. There's a new Irishman in the UFC ...

Following the McGregor playbook, he wants a star-making moment at home in Dublin to stimulate the Irish fan base. But me and Conor on the same card in Ireland, that would be an experience that I could’ve never imagined. The story of a former apprentice plumber who collected his dole on the way to making his promotional debut in Sweden, and ended up becoming a global superstar, reverberated with a whole generation of sports fans. The 24-year-old is fully aware that he does not have planes full of his countrymen landing in Vegas this week with the sole purpose of seeing him fight. Despite Garry’s explosive introduction to the Octagon in November, outside of the diehard MMA fans, he is still an unknown quantity in terms of the nation’s broader cultural conscience. Since the second he emerged in the Dana White promotion, the comparisons have been coming in thick and fast, not just by the UFC but from Garry himself.

'I want the world to see a more violent and venomous side of me ... (Independent.ie)

IRISH fighter Ian Garry steps into the UFC octagon in Las Vegas tonight believing victory over Gabriel Green will catapult his career to a new level.

I feel like I've got a point to prove in this fight and show how hard I hit and how strong I am and how fast I am. There has been plenty of hype around UFC London, but it's like people have forgotten that the Irish are the best crowd in the world. "This is obviously bigger because it's International Fight Week. It's their biggest fight card of the year. "I've only been put on big cards because I show up and they know I can deal with the pressure. I will get to show a more violent and venomous side of me and I want the world to see that." He's going to try to beat me, he's going to be aggressive, he's going to rush forward and I'm going to knock him out." It's about the fans and the people that are here – they fly so many UFC fighters in to do stuff for the fans and it's a great energy. Taking place during the organisation's famed International Fight Week, UFC 276 is headlined by two title fights. "I wasn't full of joy even though it was a win. I got straight back into the gym after it. In Green, a 29-year-old Californian with a record of 11 wins and three defeats, he has an adversary who will go toe-to-toe. I dominated the fight for 15 minutes.

UFC 276: Ian Garry Sails to Unanimous Decision Victory Over Gabe ... (Cageside Press)

UFC 276 saw welterweight prospect Ian Garry put on arguably his best performance yet, going to a decision against a gritty Gabe Green.

Green’s grappling came out to play midway through round two, however, he found himself being fully mounted after trying to trip Garry. The lightening fast Irishman got the fight back on the feet and once again, and threw his piston of a right hand at the end of another beautiful combo. Midway through the round, one of Garry’s explosive combos allowed for him to get the fight back to the centre of the Octagon. Despite that, “Gifted” Gabe Green did an extremely good job of cutting off the cage and put back on the forward pressure. Garry found himself with his back to the cage, throwing a right high kick and exploding with combos.
