It also said any passengers "affected by the cancellation of their flight by their airline should seek to make contact directly with their airline". The airline also says it expects to operate all scheduled flights in and out of the country over the remainder of the week, subject only to the risk of Air Traffic Control delays. Industrial action at Bordeaux and Lyon airports has also led to the cancellation of one return flight to Bordeaux today and two return flights to Lyon tomorrow. In a statement to RTÉ News, the company said "the delays are being compounded by security restrictions in Dublin Airport limiting access to the baggage claim area". Another one of the operators, Sky Handling Partner, said it has more than doubled staff numbers at Dublin Airport in recent months "to make it easier for incoming passengers to collect their bags".

"Aer Lingus anticipated the return of demand for travel once Covid restrictions were removed and built appropriate buffers into our plans in order to deal with a reasonable level of additional disruption. I got home at 1.30am and had to be at work that morning, after missing a day of work already. Nothing from Aer Lingus, just a text to say 'due to staff sickness your flight has been cancelled, very shortly you'll receive details of your re-booked flight'. I still haven't received that text, I had to do all the chasing myself." If you had a diabetic issue you wouldn't be able to get anything. Around 6pm somebody came and said they didn't know what was happening, but they would find some information for us." Nobody came to the gate to tell us anything.

'This is unacceptable': Passengers left stranded after Aer Lingus ... (thejournal.ie)

One passenger told The Journal that the airline has offered to reschedule them to a flight four days after their original departure date.

This is why Aer Lingus have got to come to the ballgame and get me on a flight tomorrow with any other airline and if they have to pay for it, then they will pay for it. The group are now trying to see if they can get an earlier flight back, but aren’t sure if it will be possible. They cancelled the flight overnight without telling anyone, and when I tried to get on the plane, it didn’t exist. Many people tried with a number we were given and it’s impossible. “We are waiting for a new flight. “We tried to contact Aer Lingus by phone. And I will speak to the CEO right here and now if I have to.” This is absolutely unacceptable. “I just hope they can get me on a flight. The Journal spoke to some passengers in Dublin Airport today. This is unacceptable. Absolutely. I’ll make sure they pay.”

“On balance it was not as bad as we feared but our flight is delayed so we’re not in a hurry anyway. But we’ve dropped our bags off and now we’re told our flight is being delayed, but at least it’s a direct flight this time so we’re hopeful,” they added. “We came up from Cork with our families, we are going to Canada on work visas, and our itinerary was changed just before we left home. We were originally supposed to be flying Dublin to Toronto to Vancouver, and that was changed to Dublin, Glasgow, Reykjavik ,Vancouver. We got here at 5.30am for a 10.10am flight but we weren’t let fly because the layover was too short and there was no service agreement with Iceland Air regarding baggage, so we had to go home and re-book the whole thing and now we’re back this morning,” they said. “Aer Lingus anticipated the return of demand for travel once Covid restrictions were removed and built appropriate buffers into our plans in order to deal with a reasonable level of additional disruption,” it said. The airline has cancelled nine return flights and one direct flight today, as well as three return flights tomorrow, due to several factors including “a significant spike in Covid cases”.
