The Everton winger is closing in on his move to Tottenham Hotspur after the two clubs came to an agreement overnight.

Richarlison filled in for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in leading the line for Everton last season and kept his place up front at times after the England international returned. Antonio Conte has been looking for Tottenham to improve the strength in depth of his squad and Richarlison will add to a forward line that already contains Son Heung-min, Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura, with Steven Bergwijn expected to depart for Ajax. Despite this writer’s feelings on the matter, Richarlison is to be celebrated as a hero of Goodison Park and this club regardless, and we all thank him for his service to the Blue shirt. The Brazilian is a a footballer first and foremost who wants to play every minute of every game. While Everton had a particularly down season this year, the season prior Everton finished just below Spurs by three points and three positions - despite having led them for much of the year. The Blues have not won a Premier League title either, and the last trophy for the Blues was actually won by Big Dunc in 1995 - some time ago without question. The last time Spurs won a trophy of any kind was, according to the history books, was over 14 years ago when they won the League Cup against Chelsea. Prior to that? And yet, all one has to do is look at the historic and modern numbers to see that perception, while on occasion reality, is often somewhat misleading too.

In addition to this, Richarlison left Romero in a heap on the floor after a late challenge in the 0-0 draw between Everton and Tottenham in November 2021. With Spurs already 2-0 up in the early stages of the match, Romero scythed down Richarlison with a reckless sliding tackle, so late the Argentine was lucky to escape with just a yellow card. The Argentina international clashed with Richarlison in both Spurs fixtures against Everton last season after a comment made by the Brazilian in September 2021.

The ability to drift through one's garden, reach out a hand, and pluck a fresh orange the size of a very large orange? It's 26 years since football came home, then changed its mind and went off with Germany. Not one of the great finals, in truth, but absolutely one of the great fouls to open the scoring. This is a club that used to just click its fingers and summon the very best for the very most. The latter is spectacular and short, the former long and grinding. At 11am UK time, Hibs will play a friendly against Burton Albion, and if you're at an astonishingly loose end you'll be able to watch it on their Youtube channel. All clubs too have their transfer fans, found mostly online and on the radio, who understand a club's progress in terms of signings, the speed of those signings, the glamour and TikTokability of those signings. There are two states: the misery of the deal not happening, and the total joy of the deal just done. But if Gabriel Jesus moves into the middle with Arsenal and starts scoring, that asks a question. If all these moves go badly, and lots of transfers go badly, then that's a problem. If the word on the internet is to be believed, Tottenham are this close to picking up Richarlison from Everton. And there's something about the move that just makes sense. And we have a hard time imagining any of the Tottenham first team doing anything daft-yet-photogenic with a flare: most of them would ignore it, while Harry Kane made sure it was disposed of in a safe and controlled manner. Conte's teams are well-drilled and well-organised, with attacking patterns hammered into them on the training ground, but at their best they shimmer and shiver within those structures.

So, how did Conte's side perform in the league and cup competitions after signing Richarlison in the summer transfer window? Spurs' downfall was their inability to hold onto leads in games, drawing 11 of their 38 league fixtures and costing them ground in the title race. New signings Richarlison and Milan Skriniar featured in Spurs' best XI for the 2022/23 season. At the end of the 2022-23 season, Football Manager 2022 put together an overall best Tottenham XI, based on performances, statistics and other metrics. The Brazilian scored 16 goals and registered four assists, playing mainly a left winger alongside Kane and Son in attack. The 25-year-old can play anywhere in attack and tends to knock the ball past his opponents, relying on his pace to beat players when cutting in from either wing.

What Richarlison transfer means for Tottenham's homegrown ... (Football.London)

The Brazilian is joining Antonio Conte's Tottenham Hotspur squad this summer but his arrival will have an impact on the club's player limits.

With Doherty, Davies, Rodon, Gil and Sarr on the non-homegrown player list for the Champions League, as well as the addition of Richarlison, Perisic and Bissouma, Spurs are at a total of 22 in that section and five over the limit of 17. In UEFA competition, clubs also submit a B list for those born on or after the 1st January 2001 and registered at the club for an uninterrupted period of two seasons. Matt Doherty, Ben Davies and Rodon do not qualify as homegrown in European competition for this reason. Sessegnon and Skipp, like Kulusevski, can no longer be named as U21 players because they were born before January 1, 2001. Pierluigi Gollini has returned to Atalanta following his loan spell, but Richarlison, Perisic and Bissouma will take up three spots and the returning Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso are included again for the time being following their respective loan spells. Pape Matar Sarr and Bryan Gil can still be included as U21 players, however.

Tottenham have completed the signing of Everton forward Richarlison in a deal worth £60m; The Brazil forward has justified the £40m fee the Merseyside club ...

Richarlison is now a role model to millions in Brazil as the country's No 9 and has flown the nest again. Being on the edge and with a point to prove has often played in Everton's favour. "They got caught up in the world of drugs and guns. As a 10-year-old, he played barefoot in a local football academy as his trainers had fallen apart. Teams then have gone, 'Well if you're getting £40m for him I want £60m, £70m, £80m, £90m and £100m. I think that's the problem." He'd cost £40m, but his worth was double that to a club that had been sleepwalking into the Championship canyon. Speaking in late May while on international duty, Richarlison told reporters: "I've already made it clear to the board. It was, in all likelihood, his final appearance in an Everton shirt and the player didn't want to miss the chance for one last dance with those who adored him. "I give my life to football," he told Sky Sports in an interview four years ago. Clubs know Everton are in a position where they must sell, which is giving them leverage in negotiations. Prized assets have departed Everton in acrimonious circumstances despite the club not feasting at English football's top table for over three decades. Richarlison's departure comes as a heavy blow and a symbol of a heavily mismanaged club over several years.

The Richarlison you don't know (The Athletic)

The journey of Tottenham and Brazil striker Richarlison from having a gun held to his head to being a champion of charity and social causes.

“He came to me and asked not to play because his head wasn’t in the right place,” recalls Braga. “You can imagine what that was like, having to think about playing a team he was going to sign for one day later. “He was a great person to work with, and that just shows that the respect is mutual. Most of those didn’t make the news, at least not beyond a small area of Brazil. He did them out of genuine compassion, not because it was going to burnish his public image. He was a great listener and was happy to receive advice from the more experienced players in the squad. A goal in the derby against Flamengo lifted his spirits, but it was not until 2017 that he fully came out of his shell. He kept all his money in a creaky old spring-action piggy bank in his room rather than in a bank account, and he was prone to acts of bizarre showmanship. He would go out onto the training pitch early, before his team-mates, with a ball in his hands. “He always took it well, and gave a lot back, too,” says Toscano. “The chemistry was just right.” “On one occasion, Jair Bala — the biggest idol in the history of the club — came to the training ground to take a few pictures alongside Richarlison. The idea was that they would shake hands and Jair would give him a few words of encouragement. When a series of injuries hit the first team a few weeks later, he was called in to make up the numbers in training. Some of that has started to come through in England, now he has got to grips with the language, but in Brazil there is already consensus: the kid is special, a true one-off. The other kids in the dormitory had no idea what he was up to; when he returned, a couple of hours later, he still wouldn’t tell them.
