Aer Lingus have had to cancel 12 further flights today as a result of a spike in Covid cases.

The airline also said that it will seek to re-accommodate travellers in the event of further cancellations in the coming days. On Sunday, a total of 13 flights to and from Dublin Airport were cancelled with this mainly due to air traffic control strikes in France, Italy and Spain. “Due to a spike in Covid cases Aer Lingus has been forced to cancel 6 return flights from Dublin today, Wednesday 29th June. Our teams are working to secure alternative travel options for customers in each case and wish to apologise to those impacted for the inconvenience. As a result, the corresponding return flights from those destinations due to arrive in Dublin Airport today have also been cancelled. It comes after three return flights were cancelled yesterday due to the virus while Covid and strikes were blamed on 13 cancellations over the weekend. The airline has also said it will work to assist passengers “as efficiently as possible” if there are further cancellations in the coming days.

The 7am Aer Lingus flight to Hamburg has also been cancelled.

The five Aer Lingus trips that won't be going ahead today from the capital include three London flights - scheduled for 7:30 am, 3:55 pm, and 8:15 pm - one Hamburg flight that was due to take off at 7:00 am, and a Berlin trip due to depart at 5:55 pm. According to the live flight information on the Dublin Airport website, there have been five outbound cancellations and four inbound flights scrapped impacting London, Berlin, and Hamburg passengers.

We were all geared up for it, had all the prep done. It’s not an easy job at the best of times.” I’m sure people were taking out an awful lot of frustration. We were really looking forward to it. They were due to fly to Munich on Wednesday to kick start a two-week holiday in the region.
