Amid a furious cultural backlash against the US Supreme Court's decision to burn Roe v Wade, which guaranteed a woman's right to an abortion, Billie Joe ...
As well as a disastrous conflict, it’s worth remembering that Bush was responsible for two of the Conservative justices who have steered America down the dark path it has taken with respect to women’s reproductive rights. Regular readers may remember that I recently wrote about my plan to spoil my ballot in opposition to our Labour council’s record on the rights of disabled people which affects me personally (because I am disabled) and close family members. Anger about one’s country like Armstrong displayed, is A-OK. A strong democracy accepts it, and ought to reflect on it. For a start, it’s simply grist to the mill of the other side. It is America’s economically disadvantaged women who will bear the brunt of the abortion bans enacted across half of America’s states. It is only by voting that these awful laws will be overturned. But back to Armstrong’s statement, and why I say that it was wrong of him to make it. Another thing that renouncing one’s citizenship in opposition to the demise of Roe does is to deprive the supporters of women’s reproductive rights of a vote. I imagine they’d thank the lord simply for having enough money to put food on the table. As evidenced by its crook of a prime minister, his dribbling on about things he’s patently failed to “deliver” and his arrogantly planning on a Putinesque third term before bothering to ask his voters for a second. They’re inevitably the first people to cheer. The Green Day front man said he planned to renounce his citizenship at a London show.
It may have taken three years to finally see them perform in Ireland -- but US rockers Green Day delivered a triumphant performance.
With our voices gone and our legs sore, we all joined Billy for one final acoustic performance of 'Good Riddance', from the teary eyed fans it was obvious why Green Day mean so much to us. With the sun slowly beginning its descent, Green Day emerged to the stage to deliver a performance no one will ever forget. Let's hope on their next Irish venture, the band get a better reaction and the fans get a stronger setlist. While the guys performed plenty of hits, there appeared to be a slight disconnect with the audience. It's a shame they didn't get the crowd the rising band deserves. Their last two albums got mixed reviews, audiences are still adapting to live music and morale was low due to the stress of getting into the venue.
Mosh pits in Marlay Park: The Hella Mega Tour brought nothing less than absolute chaos to Marlay Park's stage on Monday evening.
In typical Fall Out Boy fashion, they closed their set with 'Centuries' and 'Saturday', which allowed the horde to get their last bit of energy out before a brief intermission. 'Welcome to Paradise' and their cover of KISS's 'Rock and Roll All Nite' were also worthy contenders for the loudest audience participatory moments. "We've never had seven mosh pits and a crepe stand at a Fall Out Boy concert," as many turned right to look at the minuscule crepe van which had an ever-growing queue coming from its window. Fall Out Boy took to the stage shortly after, full of fire and fury. Waltzing through tracks new and nostalgic, they treated fans to tunes such as 'A Little Bit of Love', 'Records', and 'All My Favourite Songs'. The chill and laid-back 'Island in the Sun' made for a retreat from the guitar-heavy setlist. They were in full command and this became a recurring theme for the remainder of the evening. I think I'll speak for everyone by inviting Weezer, Fall Out Boy, and Green Day back to Dublin as soon as possible. Followed by 'Blitzkrieg Bop', Green Day's iconic pink bunny, somehow possessing the sorcery to hype up any crowd to maximum level, made a welcomed appearance. You can imagine the reception that sprinkling of Gaeilge received from the crowd. From there, the sense of community at the gathering was evident. The Australian punk rock band consists of Amy Taylor, Bryce Wilson, Dec Martens, and Fergus Romer. Filled with fire and attitude their self-titled debut record won the Best Rock Album at the ARIA Music Awards of 2019. However, after being one of the lucky ones who got to witness the Hella Mega Tour in the flesh, my suspicions were confirmed.
