Elvis movie fact vs fiction: What really happened to Elvis Presley? (Hidden Remote)

The Elvis movie is worth watching for the performances and brilliant soundtrack. But how much of the movie truly happen? Fact vs fiction.

Pricilla and Elvis met in Germany in 1959, when she was only 14-years-old. “Parker,” whose real name was Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk, was born in the Netherlands. It’s also true that he was in the states illegally. The highly anticipated Elvis movie, Elvis, is now playing in theaters. The audience goes wild and Colonel Parker can’t believe his eyes (or ears). But, in reality, Elvis didn’t do so well during his first show. That said, how much of the Elvis movie is fact and what is fiction? Now, this is a biopic, but that doesn’t always mean that the movie is 100% accurate.

Read the Heartbreaking Letter Elvis Presley's Father Vernon Wrote ... (GoodHousekeeping.com)

Just months after Elvis Presley died at the age of 42 on August 16, 1977, his father, Vernon Presley, gave an exclusive interview to Nancy Anderson and Good ...

But somehow the contact broke down, and on the night of Elvis’s opening, we thought a killer might actually be in the audience The hotel asked Elvis not to go on, and so did I. There’s no denying that he was afraid, but he insisted on doing that show, and the rest of the engagement. To go back to what I said at the beginning of this story, I am more heartbroken than I can express over Elvis’s death, yet I’m comforted by the sure knowledge that my son was a gift from God and his life was always in God’s hands. The most frightened I ever was for his safety was early in his career in Jacksonville, Florida. He’d been performing on a flatbed truck and, when he tried to get to his dressing-room trailer, he crowd simply swept over him. Because he was basically a night person, he didn’t get outdoors as often as I thought he should, so I used to talk to him about that, and urge him to get more sun. The call said that for $50,000 he’d tell us who the man was and how to intercept him. I don’t mean that I knew that Elvis was going to be famous, because at that time the idea never crossed my mind. It was in 1954 that Elvis decided to give his mother a record as a gift. Gladys and I warned him that we really didn’t know anything about this man and, anyway, he had an agreement with Bob Neal. Nevertheless, the next time Elvis came home from a tour, he told us he wanted Colonel Tom Parker to manager him. I’ve concluded that it wouldn’t have been because I believe Elvis’s career and contribution to the world were fated from the first. But we were thrilled and excited when we learned that we were going to be parents. Elvis’s death was so sudden that it will be years before I’ll be able to accept the fact that it really happened. First of all, I want to say that telling this story is going to be difficult now that Elvis is gone.

Fact checking the new 'Elvis' movie: Did he really fire Colonel Tom ... (USA TODAY)

The 'Elvis' movie relied on extensive research by director Baz Luhrmann and stars Austin Butler and Tom Hanks, but some parts aren't quite accurate.

The two argued into the night until Elvis, in his 30th-floor suite, fired Parker, who immediately replied that he quit and, as the movie depicts, “retired to his offices to draw up a bill” for what he claimed Elvis owed him. That night from the stage, Elvis delivered a furious attack on Hilton, saying he “wasn’t worth a damn,” she says. Adds Nash: “Priscilla was not as involved with Elvis after their divorce as she would now have people believe.” “He negotiated it as a PR move to make him appear to be the all-American boy,” she says. “He fully believed the colonel’s story that Parker hailed from Huntington, West Virginia; Elvis died not knowing the truth. He properly saluted and sir’d me left and right, and I always admired that in him.” “It’s part of why he wanted him in the first place. For answers, we enlisted expert Alanna Nash, the author of several Elvis books (including “The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley” and “Baby, Let’s Play House: Elvis Presley and the Women Who Loved Him”). “The assassination put Elvis into an emotional spiral.” Parker, ever the carny, knew what brought people in the big tent.” Mob involvement is suggested in the film,” says Nash. Once he experienced Las Vegas, that became a frequent stop for the promoter.
